Welcome to TechSpot's new server
If you are reading this then you have landed into TechSpot's new server. More details inside.
What you should know...
As always, I must thank Per for his invaluable help throughout the moving process. So far it seems to be a success with a few known but very minuscule problems that will be resolved once the DNS propagation takes place in full and everyone sees the new server through the techspot.com domain as normal.
Some basic specs of our new server are as follows:
- Dual Intel Woodcrest 5130 Dual Core Processors
- 2 x 300GB, 10K RPM SCSI/SAS Hard Drive
- 4096 MB RAM
- Red Hat Enterprise Linux, Version 5
Thanks to some powerful caching mechanisms we have had in place for some time we are able to serve 3+ million unique readers every month from a single server.
The old server a.k.a. techspot02 was showing its age with noticeable slowdowns during peak hours and traffic, but it should still be noted it was as rock solid as servers can get with an uptime of over 3 years - that's right, not a single restart during that time frame - but of course we are not so dumb as going bragging about it.
Anyway, we hope the new box can serve us well for the months and years to come as we have quite a few more changes, surprises and improvements coming for you.
Thanks for reading and your continued support.

Very cool, what were the specs on techspot02 and (presumably) techspot01? 3 years is a pretty impressive uptime. |

Is picture uploading down right now? And yeah it would be cool to know what the specs of the good old techspot02 server are. |

The old server specs looked like this: Dual Xeon 2.4Ghz Server 2048Mb RAM 2 x73 SCSI Hard Drives As for the gallery not working... We literally tested against everything and things worked OK, but unfortunately Murphy's law has been put upon ourselves and it would seem like the gallery is viewable but no new uploads are being processed. In other hand, if I modify my hosts file and used the proper techspot.com domain on the new IP address, the uploads work. Short version of the story, it will all return to normal once DNS propagation kicks into place. |

What brand server was it as what OS did you run? 3 years uptime is incredible. |

I think it was a Dell server. We ran RHEL 3. |

Haha ok, thanks. Got a MSI 9600 gt for my 16th birthday and wanted to upload some pics of it. The old server's specs don't seem too bad and honestly, I never noticed any lag using it, but IMO new is always better anyway. |

The loads on the old server where occasionally extremely high And under normal load it was also always close to 100% load... The new server seems to be handling our traffic much better, which again prooves how dated the Intel Netburst architecture really was |
