Ubisoft sues disc reproduction company over game leak
The PC version of Assassin’s Creed was released back in April, a few months after the launch of the console version. But while sales have been strong on both the 360 and PlayStation 3, things didn't go as smoothly as Ubisoft planned on the other side of the equation – and they are blaming the disc replicating company hired to print the PC version of the game.
Apparently the company in question, Optical Experts Manufacturing, failed to abide by numerous security measures which resulted in one of the company’s employees uploading a pirated copy of the game six weeks before its release. The game publisher claims that the pirated game was downloaded over 700,000 times, costing it millions in potential revenue and “irreparable harm” to the company's reputation due to a bug intentionally inserted into the pre-release version for security reasons.
Ubisoft is now suing the disc replicating company for copyright infringement, breach of contract, and negligence, seeking no less than $10 million in damages and legal fees.
