Weekend Open Forum: How powerful is your PSU?

By

On September 24, 2010, 8:51 PM

You know, power supplies don't get the attention they deserve. PSUs sit dutifully behind the curtain bringing the whole show to life while processors and graphics cards hog the spotlight. There's a simple reason they're so overlooked in the enthusiast community, and I think we all know what it is: they're boring. In fact, that's why we tend to avoid reviewing power supplies. That being the case, we think it's about time to pay our respects.

In this edition of our Weekend Open Forum, we want to know what wattage your power supply is rated for. You can brag about your specific model in the comments if you want to, but we've embedded a poll after the jump with a number of options broken down by 100W increments. Feel free to say a few kind words about the unglamorous, yet faithful metal box that fuels your machine for weeks at a clip, or just bow your head in a moment of silence.

  1. I have a Be Quiet! 530 watts PSU, as an upgrade from my sweex 600 watt(=300 watt) PSU.

  2. Antec TruPower 2.0 550 Watts

  3. Gigabyte Odin GT550had it for about 2yrs and still going strong.

Would like to upgrade to a Corsair HX650 some time later.

  4. 4+yr old AcBel 400W. C2D E6300 and 9600GT. Other famous brands are not really available in my place.

  5. Enermax Noisetaker II 485W.

Previous main system had an Enermax Noisetaker 475W, both of them have been rock solid.

  6. I have a 500 watt PC Power and Cooling Silencer I pulled from my school's recycling pile. It works great, is really quiet, and is rated for up to 35 amps on the 12 volt rail, which is great for a 500 watt PSU.

  7. 500W Fortron (85%+)

  8. I'm using corsair AX 1200W Gold Series ..

  9. I got an OCZ GameXtream 750W powersupply... I had to choose between that one and a modular 650w Thermaltake... although I have a cable mess inside my case which truly hurts the airflow, I think I made the right choice since I need to power 2x 4830's + 1 4850 + Phenom II x4 955 overclocked...

  10. I have a CoolMax CW-650t powering my Phenom II X3 710(overclocked), M3A79-T Deluxe, PowerColor Radeon 4890(overclocked), HDD, dvd burner and 6 led fans. I haven't had any problem with it since i bought it one and a half years ago. But stil i would like to go for a 750W-850W from corsair or thermaltake.

  11. Antec TruePower 750W Semi Modular
