WOF: How much time do you spend playing games?

Weekend Open Forum Microsoft recently revealed that over 25 million gamers spend more than 1 billion hours on Xbox Live each month playing games, watching videos, and listening to music.

Do the math and on average Xbox users are spending over 30 hours per month using the console. That's an impressive figure, though of course not all of that time is devoted to playing games, in fact I believe Microsoft is more interested in highlighting how its entertainment platform has grown beyond games and is being used more extensively to communicate with friends and play media.

But let's focus on the gaming side of things for a second. It's not hard to guess that if you visit TechSpot and are reading this, odds are you are a gamer, even if you don't have enough time in your hands at this very moment, you do play games on occasion.

In my case, depending on how busy I am, it can be weeks and I won't touch a single game, but then there are periods when I'll get pretty hooked up and will make time to dedicate to a worthwhile title. It's not often that you come across a WoW-class of addicting game -- I'm looking at you StarCraft II -- though for me it could be anything as long as it's really good, from first person shooters to real time strategy games, and when playing with friends, think Super Mario Wii, Rock Band or Pro Evolution Soccer.

Unfortunately I've had little time to spare recently, so I've been missing most of the latest titles and when playing something I've simply recurred to the games I've owned for a while. All in all, I've likely spent no more than 5 hours playing in the last month, though you could say I'm making time for when Crysis 2 and Duke Nukem Forever (*ouch) are released.

How about yourself? How much time do you usually dedicate to play games in your computer, console or even smartphone? Discuss.

  1. I'll flip flop between not at all to 5-10 hours a day depending on my mood, my workload, the phase of the moon, and other various unknown factors.

  2. I I try to get in like 5-10 hrs a week, its hard working full time. Next semester when I am at school it will be higher lol.

  3. 1-2 hours per day max.

  4. It used to be around 20-30 for me, but anymore it's an hour or two on the weekend when I find the time and if I feel like it. The obsession has mostly worn off for me. Though my brothers and I have been known to go 10 hours straight playing Lord of the Rings Online.

  5. Still play SOF2 at least an hour a night, and play WOW, BC2 and will be playing Black Ops when it is released, so about say 20 hrs a week

  6. Around 14-20 hours a week

  7. I play games on Facebook (Frontierville and Farmville) every single day. They are always freezing and stalling because they require so much from a computer. It's starting to be too aggravating to play.

  8. I average about 1 hour per month.

  9. Nowadays I spend anywhere from 1/2 an hour to 4 hours max. I used to be able to do alot more, but i've gotten too inactive and I can't sit around as much as before.

  10. 3-4 hours or more on some days, but zero time on at least half of the days

  11. Gaming seemed to be my life in college, but now that I am out....not any more. I actually don't think I've played an online game in quite a VERY long time. Oh well, life changes and other things take precedence. Not a big deal, just move on.

  12. My mate plays 5 hours A DAY barely leaves his room

    I play 2hrs a day

  13. I get about 26 hours a week on average, playing video games. Lately, it's been mostly PC gaming because of Fallout New Vegas.

  14. between 2-4 hours a night or 14-28 hours a week. With a gf and full time job. I spend even more time watching streams for example starcraft 2 gsl tournament which can take upto 4 hours a night during the season.

  15. Haha, I hate saying this but its probably around 30 to 40 hours per week, if not more. I straight nerd out for a while but somehow maintain a healthy relationship with my girlfriend, work and go to college full time.

  16. No one can really bash gamers for playing less than 4 hours a night when the average american watches 4 hours of a tv a night. I'd much rather by gaming uses the brain alot more.

  17. Too much of course. On average, about 2-3 hours a day.

  18. Average week...

2hrs of facebook flash games after work (14), Mass Effect 2 or Gears of War replay for another 3, PnP D&D on saturday (about 10hrs). so, um... 30ish hours.

Wow, looks like gaming is my other job. However, I do accomplish menial household tasks (dinner, laundry, time with the spouse, etc) between apps and work too...

No wonder I'm always tired, gonna have to cut back on the menial tasks and get more sleep.

  19. My apps (cafe world & castle age) have been slow too. I am beginning to think is a network speed issue with facebook as my wife plays on her system next to me and we both experience the lag of facebook on different games. Keep in mind that our systems are custom built gaming machines that play City of Heroes, Mass Effect and others with no issue.

  20. I spent about 3-4 hours playing on my PC, now that I got a pc and xbox 360, i play 2-3 hours on the pc , and about 3-4 hours on the 360. Damn that's a lot.

  21. about 2-3 hours on working days and double that time on weekends. It is pretty much about 20+ hours a week

  22. currently im playing Call of Duty modern warefare + War Craft 3 about 1-2 hours a night sometimes less

  23. it used to be hours and hours, but now...damn girlfriend!

  24. Well right now, its 2-3 hours a day cause Im working.

  25. My gaming time has drastically suffered nowadays, I don't know why but I just can't find the drive to finish the games that I started

so maybe less than 10 hrs a week, actually more around 5 really
