ATI's R350 in mass production

By on February 4, 2003, 2:25 PM
The Inquirer is reporting that ATI's R350 is now being produced in mass quantities and manufacturers' cards should be available by April. Unless NVIDIA's FXs have some big room for improvement in the drivers side they will definitely have some hard time competing against ATI who are finally enjoying a more comfortable position with the new Radeons...

Many facts are already known. The R300 will be built on a 150 nanometer process. It is basically an overclocked R300 with eight rendering pipelines and two texture units per pipeline.

It's funny how these things turn around. I should have bought some ATI stock awhile back.

Not wanting to sound like an ATi fanboy, but .....It seems that NVIDIA has really messed up this time, their Geforce FX chips are not powerful enough to compete with ATi, the Radeon 9700 Pro beats the FX on at least half of the tests in most reviews, so a 9900 will surely be faster on almost all of the tests. And since the Radeon 9900 is going to be 200 Euros cheaper, then NVIDIAs high end cards aren't really going to be much of a threat to ATi. Also, where are their low end cards? Admittedly they currently have most of the low-mid range market covered with GF4MXes (Even though the Radeon 9000 is technically superior) and GF4Ti4200s, but surely announcing a lower end card, with DX9 support would sell more units and help to push the market forward. The High End FX cards are far too expensive for anyone other than gamers to consider, there is no chance of anyone buying one for a "Home" system.
