A new video posted on YouTube claims that the hacktivist group Anonymous is planning to take down Facebook on January 28 as part of what they are calling Operation Global Blackout Part 2. The voice in the video claims responsibility for the recent attacks on CBS, Warner Brothers and the FBI, although as with previous claims to crash Facebook servers, it can be tough to determine if this is a real Anonymous threat or simply another copy-cat with no links to the loose-knit organization.
CNET points out that the YouTube account associated with this latest video appears to have some legit connections with Anonymous as there are more than one of the group’s videos posted on the channel.
In the video, viewers are encouraged to be a part of the first official cyber war and help bring Facebook down. It’s unclear why Facebook is being targeted specifically – perhaps they want to show what could happen to sites like Facebook if SOPA were to be passed - but nevertheless, the group is recruiting users to download a program called Low Orbit Ion Cannon.
LOIC is an open source network stress testing and denial-of-service attack application. The voice further goes on to explain how to use the app to attack Facebook but points out that if done randomly, it won’t work as Facebook has over 60,000 servers worldwide. As such, Anonymous is calling for a massive group attack at 12am on January 28. Users are encouraged to not be afraid of getting caught as “they” cannot take down such a large group of participants.
The fate of the Internet, according to Anonymous, rests in your hands.

there protesting censorship, and if you think that the government censoring the internet is not that big a deal then you need to read a history book. its happened many times in the past. Rome for instance, was free, then the government said we need to take some civil liberties away for security. guess what that opened the door for dictator ship. i don't want that personally. if we keep allowing the government to take a few rights away here and there it will just keep opening the door for dictatorship.
my great analogy i use when i discuss this with my peers is,
im a home owner, i hire a exterminator to kill the rats living in my house, as a exterminator you should take care of the problem by killing every rat, not by demolishing my home, yes demolishing my home would alleviate the problem and future problems of rats living in my house, but that's not what the exterminator is hired for.
the government should take care of the problem by taking care of the pirates. not by destroying the free internet. and yes the internet is a right. its freedom of speech its right to self express. its information.
as long as we keep letting the government take away our freedom for security or for no reason at all. then we are taking more steps further into opening the door for this land to not be free.

Reasoning? It's about ACTA. If ACTA goes through it will be much worse than SOPA, PIPA, or PCFIPA. I've signed the partitions, but what else can we do? That's not a rhetorical question, what should we do? We can't stand by while the internet is destroyed and our rights to privacy are ripped away.
Anonymous goes to extremes. While many don't agree with the tactic, the result is the right one. If you can think of a better and more impacting way to spread the word about ACTA, share your ideas. Otherwise it's obvious the point here, if Facebook is taken down in the name of stopping ACTA it will make world televised news. Then we could actually get together and protest in the streets... No one is going to go in the to protest if they don't know about it.

Yes, I agree the govt SHOULD be making all of our decisions for us as we are too dumb to do it ourselves. We also should be told where to work and live and if you have a disability and are unable to work, you should be shot. Being poor should be a felony, just like being black or brown is. All of our children should be taken from us at birth and raised the "RIGHT" way by for profit private corporations. If you have a chronic medical condition and are unproductive, up against the wall. As "SUPERPERSONS", corporations should be the only entities allowed to own anything. Possession of food by anyone with a net worth of less than 10 million dollars is punishable by death. Clean air and water are only available to those with the means to pay in gold. For "SUPERPERSONS", all necessities and luxury items will be supplied at no cost. Starting immediately, the "SUPERPERSON" B of A is the acting dictator and will rule by decree.
If you believe any of this can't happen, you're not paying attention.
Shutting down Facebook is a good start. Then on to "SUPERPERSON" B of A.

No..you misunderstand.
I believe that in the video they were giving instructions for everyone who was participating to all start at the same time. Well, not everyone lives in the same time zone. So if or when its starts, are they starting EST, PST, GMT? I kinda figured it would be an all day thing.
I thought it was kind of an important and shows how organized these guys really are.
