Coming full circle: Crowdfunded book tells the stories of those behind Kickstarter's most successful campaigns
A new Kickstarter project aims to take a look back on the storied – albeit short – history of some of the most successful campaigns on the crowdfunding website. Titled “The People of Kickstarter,” the would-be book by Andrew Gale is a who’s who of Kickstarter success stories with one purpose in mind: to inspire others.
With the book, Gale selected 10 of the most successful Kickstarter campaigns and interviewed the founders. Each interview started with the question of what they were doing before the project and ends with advice they could offer people thinking about creating their own Kickstarter campaign.
Among those selected for the book are multiple campaigns featured on TechSpot during their Kickstarter run including the Pebble Smartwatch ($10,266,845), Virtuix’s Omni gaming treadmill ($1,109,351), the LIFX light bulb ($1,314,542) and the SmartThings platform ($1,209,423).
Arguably the most successful of the bunch, the Pebble Smartwatch is now sold in Best Buy stores across the nation. More importantly, however, it served as a pioneer for wearable technology – a market that we’ve only scratched the surface of thus far.
A pledge of $25 will put a physical copy of the book in your hands by December of this year, just in time for the holidays. Or if you’d prefer a digital copy, a donation of $50 will ensure you get both. The founder plans to use money raised by the campaign as leverage to secure a publisher and to pay a graphic artist and editor.
As of writing, the campaign has secured $581 of the needed $10,000 to bring the book to life with 37 days to go.
