A new story trailer has landed for the third title in the Mafia series, and with it comes confirmation of the game's release date. Mafia III will launch on the PC, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4 worldwide on October 7, publisher 2K Games announced.

Those who pre-order the game will receive the "Family Kick-Back," which gives players access to three exclusive "lieutenant-themed" vehicles and weapons at launch.

There will be standard, limited deluxe, and limited collector's edition versions of the game available.

The limited deluxe edition will cost $79.99 and feature the game along with its season pass. The collector's edition, meanwhile, will come with everything in the deluxe version and also include Mafia III's original score on vinyl, a collectible art book, art prints, plus more items that will be revealed at a later date.

Mafia III is one of our '10 most anticipated games of 2016.' In it, players take control of Lincoln Clay, a mixed-race Vietnam-Vet who joins the New Orleans 'Black Mob' in 1968. After his surrogate family is betrayed and wiped out by the Italian mafia, Clay builds a new family to seek revenge on those responsible

The third-person viewpoint, open-world, vehicular action, and visceral gunplay means Mafia III is often compared to GTA V, which is by no means a bad thing. From the gameplay videos we've seen so far, and the fact that it boasts Haden Blackman - the man behind numerous Star Wars books, comics, and games - as its creative director, it looks as if Mafia III could be one of the biggest hits of the year.
