Taking Apart the Box Office

My favorite section of any review, after all, it's the hardware side of things that we are most passionate about. The warranty will not be voided by removing the unit from the case, as this is necessary to install the internal hard drive should you choose to do so.

Because the Box Office is designed to be taken apart, this has been made easy by design. You will be able to crack this product open in mere seconds by removing a pair of screws on the back.

Of course, we didn't stop there, as we proceeded to remove the internal drive tray. Doing so exposed a green PCB roughly as wide and long as the unit itself. Here you'll find a small silver heatsink that cools dowm the Realtek RTD1073DD video processor. This is a highly integrated SoC for Consumer Electronics products requiring High Definition media playback, networking, and mass storage capabilities.

This Realtek chip is accompanied by a pair of memory IC's. There is a Nanya NT5TU64M16DG-AC (DDR2-800) memory chip which features a 64MB capacity and acts as a memory buffer. Then we have a Hynix HY27UF082G2B NAND flash memory chip with a 256MB capacity which we believe contains the user interface.
