InterVideo WinDVD 5 Platinum is
currently perhaps the best software DVD decoder around,
offering excellent image quality, audio features and a great
deal of tweak-ability for both video and audio playback.
PAL TruSpeed proves to be a nice
addition for those of you owning PAL encoded DVDs, which
play them at the same speed as they were in the cinema… I
find it weird listening to such DVDs on other decoders now
as a result. And last but not least Progressive
Deinterlacing proved to offer a noticeable enhancement to
the image of interlaced content.

Note: By the time
of posting this review, InterVideo went on and released a
new version of WinDVD Platinum (6.0). According to what we
were told, more than a revolutionary this is more of
evolutionary release and most of the information posted here
remains valid at least for current new generation of the
player (we tested version 5.3 with Audio Booster Pack).
