X-Setup
6
OS Version
Unlike
the previous versions, X-Setup Plug-ins can now be disabled from being
displayed should they not be supported in the current Operating System (NOTE –
You can disable X-Setup 6 from doing this in the Options menu if
you wish), e.g. the ability to change Windows 9x/Me Vcache settings (XQ
FileCache Settings Plug-in) is of no use if you are in Windows 2000. In such
a case this Plug-in will either not appear or be disabled. Although this feature
requires a small bit of support from the Developer of the Plug-in, e.g. by
checking the Information on a Plug-in you can see whether or not it will
be displayed in certain Operating Systems, not selecting any means it will be
displayed regardless of usefulness. Here’s an example, with Windows 2000
loaded the Windows 9x Cache Optimization Plug-in is still visible,
checking the properties of it reveals why this is so;
As
you can see, none of the listed Operating Systems have been Ticked which
means this Plug-in can be displayed on all Operating Systems. As it happens the
Plug-in itself was disabled (As were others that I noticed which
shouldn’t have been displayed), so essentially this is more of a cosmetic
problem than anything else.
Plug-ins/Wizards
As
mentioned earlier, while X-Setup 6 includes a good number of Interface change
& additions new Plug-ins & Wizards are also included over the previous
version. There is a massive amount of things you can do with all of the
Plug-ins available. While I can’t possibly cover them all here’s a few
things that are covered;
Internet
Explorer customization & True Cache cleaning, Windows 9x/Me/NT/2000 & XP
memory tweaks, Office 97/2000/XP tweaks, Software Installation configuration
& much more. Overall I counted 536 files in my Plug-ins
directory & 54 in the Wizards directory, & with X-Update
you can easily download more. Here’s a shot of the X-Setup in Plug-in mode.
As
you can see everything is nicely divided into a few initial categories, then
further divided down into other sub-sections. The Wizards utility
features a similarly logical structure.
