MS Freelancer - quit to desktop and other errors

Hi all
I've recently started playing Freelancer and it occasionally just closes so that it is still on the taskbar but is non-responsive, or it gives me a white screen (from which I need to restart), or it gives me a BSOD - that describes the error as "STOP: 0x0000008E", none of the old "IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL" etc etc. I can rule out the soundcard because I was using the onboard AC'97 and I had the same problems. It might be the video card (which incidentally plays Freelancer on full settings and 1280*960*32 really well) or the power supply (a measly 250W) dying but I don't want to have to buy new kit if I'm not 100% sure it's faulty. Any suggetions?

Thanks

probably memory error, your ram maybe faulty

if you have more than one,try removing them and see which one is the problem

It's almost certain that your powersupply is 'overworked'. Cheap PSUs never even supply their indicated wattage, and PSUs also deteriorate over the years.
Borrow a 350-400W unit from another PC, then try out if you see improvements.

Go here to calculate your power-needs:

My estimate from your User Profile is at least 230 Watt, meaning your PSU is at the ragged edge of disaster. Get a better one!
