Windows 7 is still in pre-release. The only way to intall Windows 7 Ultimate RC 7100 is to do a "clean" install. I have been running Windows 7 beta 7000 on a separate hard drive from my Vista Home Premium, SP1 install. You can copy files from one OS to the other. My Vista is 32-bit, and my Windows 7 is 64-bit. I was able to move my music, documents and pictures from Vista to Windows 7 easily. Windows 7 and Vista 64-bit can handle most 32 bit applications. Back up your important files and do a Windows 7 clean install

I got the Windows 7 RC x64 7100 download and key from TechNet today. It took about 40 minutes to download, and I used DVD Decrypter to burn the .iso file to a DVD... I am visiting friends in Las Vegas, but I will be home Friday. My friend had me install the Windows 7 x64 RC on his system. The clean install went well. I will install it Friday on my dual boot system

Just wondering since the RC is now out, has anyone had any trouble installing it on a virtual Machine?
I tried last night to install it on Sun VirtualBox but when it comes to entering the product key it says its denied. I used the one Microsoft gave me and refreshed the page to try a couple of different ones but none seem to work...any one had the same problem. This happened with the Beta as well and so never got round to running it.
I’m installing it on a completely separate hard drive to My windows install and have everything at minimum system requirements and above so that’s no problem. If not then il wait a bit and see if any more news comes out.
Also just to say when it comes to install is says Windows Vista on the main start page and not Windows 7. Do you think this has anything to do with it or is it just my bad luck?

You don't have to enter the product key during the setup.

But you will need the key to activate the software within 30 days. I believe that a Windows 7 beta key will work with Windows 7 RC

Well i did try that but thats were my second problem came in you see. When it comes to select the version, its not Windows 7 but Vista

It asks to select Windows Vista Home premium and such for some unknown reason. This is the only .iso i have in the folder in loading it from so its definitely the only thing i downloaded from Microsoft, so its bugging me as to why its done this.

I'm going to try and re download and use a different Virtual machine to see if it does anything different but this must be why it wont accept the key.

Ok well my first attempt failed but ive installed VMware and its works fine on there, so it seems that VirtualBox has some issues with the RC candidate.

I installed the RC yesterday, today I set up the media center. Set it to record a show, come back to watch, and the video is all there, but no sound. I double checked nothing was muted, navagating through the stuff in media center makes the chimes like normal. I also opened some recordings I had made with 7057 and they had sound. So I checked live TV, no sound.

Something broke the sound in the RC. I've got a Hauppage PVR-250 card in the comp, and it was detected on first boot to desktop after installing, Windows downloaded the drivers automatically and installed them. Same as it had done with 7057.

Kinda sucks not having sound on TV.

I had no problem installing the RC x64 but one thing irritated me. When I went to install RivaTuner 2.09 and 2.24 I got the same message that "this version of Windows require all drivers to have a valid digital signature". Then, in a second window "Cannot load Riva Tuner64.sys driver" A third window said "Driver signing enforcement must be disabled in order to start Riva Tuner under Vista x64. Do you want to disable driver signing enforcement right now and reboot the system to apply these changes?" I did but it still wouldn't work. If I try "troubleshooting compatability it tries to load the 32bit XP drivers under windows compatibility mode. And I can't seem to find where I need to go to disable driver signing enforcement? I also tried all the other run as administrator etc. stuff.

I didn't have this problem with the previous builds. Speed fan didn't work either so now I have nVidias overclock bloat wear just to run the GPU fan at 100%, which is necessary because this 8800GT runs really hot. like 66C at idle with full fan and into the 90's when gaming. I ordered an Accelero S1 R2 today. The only other thing that is bugging me is when I place the cursor and left click on a doc, it marks it one space back. Small potatoes but irritating none the less.

Edit. I can find no drivers that work with my Realtek HD sound, and I can't get Audacity to record anything. This has been with all previous builds as well.

Hello everyone,

Since windows 7 is now in its RC status i want to install it on my pc...
I wanted to know if my pc is compatible for windows 7 so I ran the upgrade advisor and this is what i got from the upgrade advisor

Upgrade: i can do an in-place upgrade to windows 7 home premium or ultimate
Ram: 1.25 available i can run the 32 bit version but i need 2 GBs of ram to run the 64 bit(which i have no intention of running) but I will buy more memory
Windows Aero: cant run that my graphics adapter wont support it so i definately need a better one

Sound works, Ati radeon xpress 200 series( my vid card) will also work

Now i'm planning on buying a dvd-burner( so i can burn the iso of windows 7) and everything else i need to make my pc run windows 7 smoothly

i have no idea what my graphics adapter is but here are my pc specs above

Let me know what i need, i dont want to buy anything too expensive(referring to graphics card)

help would be appreciated

first of all you can't upgrade from XP to Win7 so if you're running Vista you should probably have the same results with Win7 vis a vie Aero etc. Secondly, you never want to replace your current OS with a release candidate unless you don't care about your data or have it all backed up to another partition/drive or CD. The ISO needs to burn to a DVD and pretty much any DVD burner will work. You can download Everest Home Edition and expend the Display tree double click on PCI /AGP adapter and the window on the left will tell you what your video adapter is. Or go to start/run type in msinfo32.exe hit Ok go to components/display and find out what the adapter is.

If you're running Vista, then as far as the eye candy goes you should have a similar result with Win7. I don't think the requirements are any different. And for the most part your Vista drivers should be compatable with Win7 so the upgrade should be pretty smooth. If your video adapter only has 64MB's of memory, pretty much anything would be an improvement. It depends on your budget. The new Radeon 4770 with GDDR5 memory is supposed to be a monster for $99 if you're on a budget

Will dual boot at first, and will probably upgrade my computer to se7en when it is fully released.

Just done a Upgrade advisor, and it says my CPU, RAM and Hard-drive are fine, but Windows aero doesn't work, and it says I will have to back-up when Upgrading. Just looked at the link you posted for the Radeon HD 4770, how do I know if this will work with my computer, and more importantly , make it work with Aero??

EDIT:WOOH, they are expensive in the uk. £80! What a rip-off, that is out of the question now

i was thinking of dual booting myself i'm in the process of doing that now
i just have to make a partition with enough space :[

as for the radeon hd, i'm not into the graphics card alot and i dont know nothing but as long as I can get anything better than 64mb of ram i'll be fine

of course i have a 245 watt power supply on my presario SR1610NX so i have to find a video card that can run with it

UPDATE: Just installed windows 7, i dual booted...it looks nice i just need a video card upgrade

I'm still in need of help trying to get Riva Tuner installed. That's the only thing hanging me up now. Has anyone got it or something similar, other than the nVidia app, running on Win7?

I'm curious, the ISO i got straight from Microsoft for Win7 RC x64 boots to a selection menu of options:
1.
2.

It doesn't describe these options at all, 1 will launch the installer, 2 will fail to boot. Anyone else get this? I MD5 checksum's my ISO and it passes, seems odd to me.

Also, I'm having trouble with my dual boot scenario. I have WinXP installed on a Intel RAID controller, Win7 sees it no problems. I have a blank drive on my onboard Marvel SATA controller, Win7 needs a driver loaded to see it.
I set BIOS to boot from the Marvel Controller, Installed Win7, the bootloader doesn't add WinXP automatically. I used EasyBCD to add WinXP to the bootloader, but it fails to boot (Invalid boot.ini file; booting from C:\Windows\; NTDETECT failed), However if I set BIOS to boot from the RAID controller, all's well with WinXP. Any ideas what I'm missing?

Wait. Are you trying to install 7 or is it already installed? Is the XP x86 or 64? I've had some weirdness with the XP Win7 x64 dual boot too but not what you are describing. a whole diff weirdness altogether.
