Hi,

I am having constant restarts of my computer (with Windows XP Pro SP1).

Most of them occur just when the welcome screen is loading (this morning it has show me the BSOD because I have pressed a key (up arrow) when it was loading the welcome screen). Most of them come with the BSOD.

Other times, it just restarts when I leave it alone downloading something with emule or azureus.

I was having this same problem and I changed my HD. But it seems it has nothing to do with this, since with the new installation everything is the same (I have not installed all the programs that I had, since I wish to wait if I have to reinstall all again).

I do not know if anybody could help me. Thank you in advance.

Hi,

Your problem is hard and probably it is hardware problem (ie fault ram, M/B or video card, overheat and PSU). Your minidumps do not have useful diagnostic information

Suggestion
1. Check the temperature of the CPU and make sure that it is not overheat (ie temperature < 60C)
2. Reseat the memory stick to another memory slot
3. Downclock the ram
4. Clean the dust inside the computer case
5. Make sure that the ram is compatible to the motherboard
6. Reseat video card
7. Upgrade to XP SP2

Thank you for the quick response, cpc2004.

Let's try to discard some possibilities (please correct me if I'm wrong):

1. CPU temperature seems to be correct at this moment. Sometimes, in summer, and playing some games while using other programs, it has exceeded 70C, but it is not normal (the room where my PC is is like an oven in summer).

2. I cannot do this, because the PC is still under warranty and I cannot open it without losing my warranty.

3. How can I do this? I have not overclocked it (I do not know how to do it). Is it important or only if I had overclocked it?

4. Same problem as 2. Anyhow, there was more than "dust" inside. When I went to the shop to change the HD, the guy told me that he was going to use the vacuum cleaner, so I hope this was done.

5. I have not had any problem during 1 year and a half and I have not changed nothing but the HD, so I suppose this should not be the reason.

6. Is it sufficient if I reinstall its drivers?

7. I have this pending. Once I can finish burning all my data from my old HD, I will try this (I do not know if there is some risk of losing my data, but I assume it would be preferable to do a new install).

Anyhow, could you please explain why do you consider that it is not a software related problem? Is there any other information which I can give you to be sure?

In my previous post, I told you that your minidumps do not have helpful debugging information. They are all crashed with bugcheck 7F with nt status code 8 (ie double fault). The stack has only one trace entry and stack trace may be corrupt. I cannot confirm whether it is hardware or software problem. Report the problem to microsoft if you want an accurate answer.

Findding
Your PC has over 1000 memory error which is exceptional high. It maybe related to overheat, hardware error of the hard disk or device driver error.

Your windows is at XP SP1. You had better upgrade it XP SP2.

I am finishing making the back up of all my files and i am going to upgrade to XP2.

These days, the computer restarts 4 or 5 times when I start it. First, the windows loading screen just appears and it restarts. Then I choose to start windows normally and it immediately restarts. Next time I choose it again and I am able to reach the welcome screen and to enter in windows. But it restarts (this time with BSOD and after a black screen (like when you refreshes after changing screen resolution or something like that)). Next time I get it right. But surely it will restart again during the morning (just emule working). Then, if I am lucky, it may be running fine for a couple of days without any restart (I can even play games that make it work a lot).

Pretty strange. Probably I will reinstall all with XP pro SP2 and little by little, to try to identify if some driver makes this.

Base on my past experience, the following symptom is related to hardware error such as faulty ram, video card or motherboard.

BugCheck 1000007F, {8, 80042000, 0, 0}
Probably caused by : ntkrnlmp.exe ( nt!KeSetEvent+78 )

It seems that the ram is Ok (at least, it passed memtest up to 800% with 0 errors).

I am beginning to suspect that it may be the video card (you cannot imagine the dust that there was in the fan of the video card, and sometimes it does those "refreshes").
