I also had to use the comment from "Ihatemssearch" about a 100 byte DLL file to remove. The one I had to remove was "netwrap.dll", not the wbeconm.dll that he mentioned.

I also had trouble with that "nuisance" message - so "Ihatemssearch" note was helpful - but the file I had to delete was netwrap.dll - I knew it was that one due to date on file and the 100 byte note.

I can't get rid of mssearchnet registry value.

I've run regedit in safe mode.
It found the problem.
But will not delete it.
Could it be encripted somehow ?

I'm still getting the annoying popup form the tool bar.

i had teh same problem but it didnt go away for ages so eventually i got reeallllly pissed off becaus eit installed spytrooper and stuff like that so i reformatted my HD

mssearchnet.exe is registered as the Generic Downloader.aa and Trojan.Zlob.D Trojans. This process usually comes bundled with a virus and it’s main role is to do nothing other than download other viruses to your computer. It is a registered security risk and should be removed immediately.

theres 1 prob wit thick headed stubborn assed people like you "and i really dont care if you own this forum" if someone comes to a forum to ask 4 help and if you think 'lets say they dont have a anti virus runnin for example' mebby throw a link to somthin decent like avast or other such reputable free AV. now mebby if you had read other posting on other sites like a informed person woud youll know "as did the pearson below the quoted post did." that this wont get scrubbed by a mere AV or ASW or any like program hand has to have a little more hands on approach. now lighten up pull the yard stick from your not so golden prostierior and chill. oh and the whole 'your log must be a doctored joke' comment was a unbeliveable rude thing to say, esp sence it looked fine to us.

yes well the whole point of us recomending an AV/spyblaster/etc software to install/scan the system is to assist with the removal of the object in question, and aslo as a prevention from possible future attacks of the same thing... as 89% or so of most cases are already solved by the big techs from various security firms.. and why not use something thats already there thats designed for it?

most of us here will try and give the most simplest guide to fix something first, whether its a link to another article that has the solution/related thing or just basic troubleshooting first, then a more in-depth approach second if needed (ie registry edits, utilities etc)..

it is true that the comment stated might be rude, but i will not comment, since i dont read/nor understand HJT logs, and leave it to those who can... but sometimes communications can get muddled, and trying to troubleshoot when you're not there does tend to cause plenty of miscommunication at times.. like trying to speak english to one who speaks chinese/another language or cant speak/has little english (as an example, not to offend anyone)

Firstly - how often do you read these forums? Are you not aware of the prompt and comprehensive help that RBS has given perhaps thousands of people in the history of the "security and the web" forum? Are you aware of the real pain in the backside it became to give help to people asking for it, which strangely enough started long enough before this post to infuriate even the mildest mannered of people, purely because people took the help for granted and started demanding while refusing to follow even the simplest advice?

Perhaps you didn't read the frigging date of the post which explains why you take such strong issue with RBS and his responce to a post and issue which has long since been dead and buried? Nor, I suppose, were you in your alighty moral tower, aware of the multiple posts and links with regards to what antiviruses and firewalls were best, or what programs were recommended to install? Perhaps it escaped you that the guy asked for help, and RBS was here anfd perfectly willing to help, if the guy (who clearly from his postings could speak good enghlish) could be even BOTHERED to follow the advice he was given. Did it escape your attention that after being told twice that he needed an antivirus, and with all these other HJT posts available, with all the stuff plasted in every corner of the web about AV's, with AV DEDICATED THREADS flying around, or even just a search away if nessecary, the guy RBS was trying to help originally STILL chose to be lazy and NOT BOTHER!?

Let me tell you something about RBS - he's solved more computer problems for more complete strangers in a quite short space of time than most would ever consider helping in perhaps their entire lifetimes, save those of his ilk. All this, all the stress and crap he's voluntarily put himself through just to help as many complete strangers as he could for YOU to give him such flak and call him an stubborn for your first and hopefully ONLY post on these boards?

yes RBS can be a little grumpy sometimes, but I for one don`t blame him.

People ask for help, then don`t follow his advice. It makes me angry when people do it with me too.

Also, as Spike pointed out. If you`d bothered to look at the date of the post in question. You would have noticed it was quite some time ago.

A little bit of respect, tact, and diplomacy goes a long way here.
