10 Tech Enthusiast Guilty Pleasures: (A.K.A. Expensive Gear We Need)

Uplift desk is the company I would put for enthusiast desks. Not secretlab junk.

Solid wood, far more accessories.
I've got an Uplift desk and a Secretlab chair, but neither are the highest end mentioned in this article. Still, they aren't cheap either. I work from home so the money was definitely worth it. They have and continue to serve me well, though my chair is getting towards the end of its life, still has one or two years left though.

It's funny that you have all this high tech and then it's sitting on a POS table instead of a nice wide, deep wooden desk with drawers that can be locked if you want. And no, the PC case desk is not an actual desk it is just another table as well.

Regarding Headphones, I actually miss my old pair of ZM-RS6F USB 5.1 Surround Headphones...
True surround sound with multiple drivers that were surprisingly amazing at directional audio. These days I'm happy with my Corsair Void Wireless set with virtual surround sound but they still dont come close to real separate drivers spaced properly like the Zalman's were...

I also work from home and was tired of a ikea desk that was sagging in the middle and looked horrendous.

For your uplift, did you get the solid wood upgrade or using the cheap stuff (Plywood)?

We did the solid wood walnut and this is a 70 lb beautiful solid piece of wood. Granted it was the most expensive option, it lives up to the price. The mechanics on it can lift all 3 of my monitors, the extended wood desk and everything on top of it. I think they said up to 250-300 lbs. You can even hammock underneath the desk. I could sit on the desk and it would still lift up. I have two cabinets attached to it, one metal locking one even.

With the custom sizes you can get it longer or shorter (I have an extended long one).

Curious what you dont like about it or who you feel is better? I feel my uplift desk is a lifetime purchase (around $5k for everything). What company does better? I couldnt find one. Most folks said to buy a door and customize it. Uplift gave me solid 2-3 inch piece of walnut wood that should last a lifetime.

I have purchased the secret labs titan chair a few years back and while it was comfy for a year, the thing fell apart in less than a year and the handles leather split down the middle the first month. Secretlabs wasnt going to honor any warranty, I had to argue with them that my very expensive chair shouldnt have its leather rip in under 2 months use, thats defective! They disagreed but agreed for a one time service and sent me two new handles. I was happy they did but the fact they argued about it after two months of use scared me away from ever buying something from them again. Its obv crap.

Out of all this crap I might try the B&W speakers. I have a set of B&W small bookshelf speakers that punch well above their weight. My Sony ES serices amp from the late 80s would like a chance to punch those new Bower & Wilkins speakers into oblivion.

550 for a "racing chair" secondary suggestion?

Forget that. These uncomfortable and useless "racing chairs" are not worth more than 250 at best.
For 550 you can get a much better ergonomic chair that breathes (instead of sitting on your fake leather "gaming chair" sweating like a pig). Sure 550 ergonomic chair is not Herman Miller quality, but it's miles better that those junk "racing chairs".

As far as speakers: I'm still using the Klipsch Pro Media 2.1.

I've been using them since 2005.

I had a set for 10 years and the subwoofer blew. I bought it again for just $120.

I mean... if your lusting after a 32:9 57" G9 Neo but it's too expensive... I would pivot to the 49" G9 OLED. It's keeps almost everything that makes it's slightly bigger brother so lusty while being cheaper & in some ways better.

Wow....not even one item mentioned above piqued my interest. Nor feels practical for me. I guess these are for those who have obscene amount wealth and don't know what to do with it.

Imho they where all kinda poorly thought out... which I think was on purpose, because if you look at it and read it as joke... its actually all kinda funny. Seriously look at each section... The TV's, The headphones, the desk, monitors, laptops, speakers... then consider how everything is written, none of it is serious and its all in jest.

"This list hits way too close to home 😅 It’s crazy how tech enthusiasts can justify any purchase as a 'must-have.' From RGB everything to the latest overpriced gadgets, it's all part of the addiction—and honestly, we wouldn’t have it any other way. Great read!"

MBP looks too expensive for a portable solution for somebody that knows stuff.
For that price, I would go for a desktop solution which is more flexible.
But hey, if money is burning your pocket, there are a lot of companies ready to part a fool from his money.
