360 controller won't work with Win 7

i have a win7 x64 computer and i recently bought a 360 pc controller reciever online that is an official microsoft product. i have a wireless 360 controller which is official too. i installed the driver that came on a disk but found out it was an older version and meant for winxp. so i went online to microsoft and downloaded the driver for my computer. it says it installed correctly and the controller app works and connects to the controller. but the controller doesnt do anything. is there a way to fix this problem?

My wireless 360 controller works in 7 x64 without any extra apps, I simply installed the driver from Windows Update.

Mine either installed corrently, or Windows Update fixed it. I think my friend was having the same problem with 64-bit too..
