it looks as if the card is built on the same reference board design as the 5950
i also heard that the 5700 chip is a cut down 5950 - there was a rumor floating around that - like the ATi cards a while back - the extra pixel pipes on the 5700 could be unlocked giving - in effect - a 5950.
this - after the problem ATi had with that - seem unlikly that nvidia would make the same mistake - but anything is possible

anyone care to advance/deny this rumor?

you mean how people softmodded radeon 9500 non pros to 9700pros?? it could be possible. i believe they are using the same core so its likely they could be oc'ed to 5950 speeds. im still a fan of ati, and would probably get a radeon 9800 non pro or 9800xt over that 5700 or 5950

GeForceFX 5700 Ultra

Graphics Core 256-bit
Memory Interface 128-bit
Memory Bandwidth 14.4GB/sec.
Fill Rate 1.9 billion pixels/sec.
Vertices per Second 356 million
Memory Data Rate 900 MHz
Pixels per Clock (peak) 4
Textures per Pixel* 16
Dual RAMDACs 400 MHz

GeForceFX 5950 Ultra

Graphics Core: 256-bit
Memory Interface:256-bit
Memory Bandwidth:30.4GB/sec
Fill Rate:3.8 billion texels/sec.
Vertices/sec.356 million
Memory Data Rate:950MHz
Pixels per Clock (peak):8
Textures per Pixel:16*
RAMDACs 400MHz

The 5950 has a faster memory speed, but a 256bit memory bus to get double the throughput of the 5700 and double the fill rate. bumping up the memory clock is easy, its just how to make the 128bit memory bus to a 256bit. asides from thats, they look identical

cheers for clarifying that :]

gonna say, he knows what he's talking about but didnt know that? knew there was some explanation mate :]

oh well
