While excitement about the Galaxy Note 8 and iPhone 8 is continuing to build, it’s easy to forget that the long-time rivals will be competing against Google’s new flagship devices, too. There have been plenty of previous rumors about Samsung's and Apple's phones, and now, thanks to XDA Developers, we've received some rumored details about the Pixel 2 and the Pixel 2 XL.

Citing a "source familiar with the matter that spent time with at least one of the phones," the publication claims Google’s smaller handset will measure 4.97 inches, while the larger Pixel 2 XL will feature a 5.99-inch screen.

Reports arrived earlier this month that claimed Google had canceled its mid-sized Pixel device, codenamed Muskie, and would instead only be releasing the smaller “walleye” phone and larger “Taimen” handset.

It was also rumored that LG would be manufacturing Taimen. However, after what’s thought to be references to the next Pixel handsets were found in the HTC U11’s system files, it seems the manufacturer of the original Pixels could still be involved with the successors.

XDA Developers’ source says the Pixel 2 XL’s 5.99-inch screen will be a 1440p OLED display provided by LG, which, given April’s news that Google had offered to invest $880 million in LG Display to secure the OLEDs, makes sense.

Like most modern flagships, the Pixel 2 XL will come with smaller bezels than its predecessor and sport a Snapdragon 835. It’s also said to have 4GB of RAM and 128GB of storage. The two-tone glass/metal finish on the back is expected to remain, though sources say the fingerprint scanner won’t appear in the glass section anymore (no word on where its been moved). It will also have a single camera and dual LED flash.

The smaller Pixel 2 will have a design “almost identical” to the original device. It features a 4.97-inch FHD display, keeps the larger bezels, and reportedly foregoes the 3.5mm headphone jack in favor of stereo speakers. Like its bigger brother, Walleye will come with a Snapdragon 835 and 4GB of RAM. There will also be 64GB storage option.

As with all rumors, there’s no guarantee this information will turn out to be 100 percent accurate. But it will definitely be an interesting battle between Google, Samsung, and Apple in a few months’ time.

They're right. I'd clean forgotten that those Google chumps have still yet to release a new model blower this year. Google phones are not the first brand of phones that comes to my mind when I'm in the market although from what I've heard, there's nothing much wrong with them apart from being stupidly overpriced but then again, what "high end" phone isn't?

I interact with my current Pixel a solid 8-12 hours+ a day (if you count using it as a GPS when I'm out, and a TV remote/Chromecast remote when I'm home) and I want each of those hours to go smoothly and offer a great user experience. I'll gladly pay $1000 for a premium device. I bought this Pixel pretty close to opening day and am eagerly awaiting the chance to drop another $1k on it's upgrade.

Why would you eagerly await to blow $1K? The Nexus line Google had was nice, it had most of what the other phones had and wasn't grossly overpriced. They switched the name and made it look more like every other phone out and jacked the price up. If it's so nice why upgrade at all after just a year?

I'm not eager to blow $1000. Of course I wish they weren't so expensive. And they are really reaching the limit of how much I'm willing to spend on a phone. I am eager to see the improvements made to an already great phone. And based on the Chromecast, the Daydream, the Pixel, the Nexus, and the other hundreds of apps and products that Google has produced chances are it's going to be a great device too. Google doesn't make crappy products. And I have faith they won't start now...

You are correct thou, it probably isn't worth the $1000 premium to upgrade from Pixel 1 to Pixel 2. Realistically, how much performance and features could possibly be gained... probably not that much. And I should of mentioned this above, I have someone on my family plan in desperate need of an upgrade. And she has been patiently waiting for my "hand-me-down" since she isn't a "power user" my pixel is more than enough for her needs at the same time I get to justify spending $1000 bucks on a Pixel 2, which I am eager to get

The contradiction between your two post.

lol at the giving someone last year's $1000 phone as a hand me down.

I don't think Google is trying to entice current Pixel owners. Owning an XL myself, I see no appeal to upgrading. What they're trying to do is not completely blow the production process this time around and grab some more of the market.

There was demand for the Pixel, people simply couldn't get them easily.

Side note: Best Android device and experience I've ever had, hands down. People focus too much on hardware when they see the price tag of a device...Try picking one up and using it first.

Sorry if I was coming off contradictory. I wanted to stress the fact that, although they are expensive they are great phones. I have faith that the Pixel 2 will be great also, and I am waiting for it's release to buy the upgrade.
I use my phone all day, everyday and I am okay with paying a premium once a year to get stock Android (the way Google intended it to be) and garenteed the latest updates to ensure a great user experience each hour I spend with it.
