Amazon recently announced plans to create more than 7,000 new jobs in the US. The additional help will be used to meet growing consumer demand across fulfillment centers in 17 cities as well as fill vacancies within their customer service division according to a press release on the matter.

Specifically, Amazon is looking to hire 5,000 full-time employees in addition to 2,000 jobs which include a mix of full-time, part-time and seasonal positions. Amazon said positions with the company pay 30 percent more than traditional retail jobs and include comprehensive health benefits from day one in addition to 401(k) and company stock awards. Those stock grants have added an average of nine percent to base annual pay over the last five years.

What’s more, Amazon offers employees innovative programs like Career Choice which will pre-pay up to 95 percent of tuition for courses related to in-demand fields, even if those skills aren’t relevant to a career with the company.

At present, Amazon is looking for additional help in the following cities: Breinigsville, Pa., Chattanooga, Tenn., Charleston, S.C., Chester, Va., Cooper, Texas, Hebron, Ky., Indianapolis, Ind., Jeffersonville, Ind., Middletown, Del., Murfreesboro, Tenn., Patterson, Calif., Phoenix, Ariz., San Antonio, Texas, San Bernardino, Calif., Spartanburg, S.C., and Tracy, Calif.

The announcement was delivered a day before President Barack Obama is set to visit a fulfillment center in Chattanooga to speak about jobs in America.

Amazon is doing well and probably will for the forseable future as they offer a wide variety of products/services at great rates. Renting movies, downloading games and buying iPads all in the same location under one account is destined to succeed.
It won't last forever though, 5000 of these jobs will go way after the surge subsides, whenever that is.

Sounds better then whats offered here in Detroit!

Born and raised in Detroit, kid from the city so I know, but while Amazon have no plans for this city I'll say that there are a lot of jobs in the last 2 years in the IT field in and around Detroit.
