Amd 2700 Showing up as Amd 1500+

I reformated this computer a while back...it was a computer that i didnt build myself...anyway computer worked fine for a bit like 6months to a year and then i had to reformat,Once i reformatted there was a few problems which i had fixed but then there was this problem When i reset the Cmos it goes back to showing Amd Athlon 2700 and all the ram thats in here i will end up getting Bsod'd and then it will reset...Once this computer resets it goes back to Amd Athlon 1500+ with less ram than whats in here...i pretty much decided to scrap this thing but i wanted to take one more stab at it because i rather not lose out on this

sounds like bad ram. run memtest
