AMD CEO Lisa Su discusses supply problems and the future of CPUs

Followed these comments. A lot of good perspectives, and Dimitriid you're right AMD needs to be able to increase production, but the reality of it man, is that we don't live in a perfect world. and right now there is a lot of messed up problems worldwide. Problems that are effecting companies like AMD. Recall that AMD is just recovering from the stone age we know as "Bulldozer" and they simply don't have the production levels that Intel or Nvidia have by any means. In her industry she MUST make a competitive product to stay alive, otherwise.......well "Bulldozer" will happen all over again. And after all she did say "AMD have invested in the construction of new equipment and facilities" which means she is making a full attempt(even during world events)to improve production, all while staying ahead of the curve. It's about all a person can do in the attempt to make everyone happy ;) Sorry we can't all live in your perfect little bubble.

I will say that I appreciate that this is probably, as you allude here, just about the only way AMD can really climb back I do not disagree with that part.

But here's my "idealistic" side: if the only way for them to come back is just objectively bad for consumers then it's not worth it. If the only way to beat intel is to become just as bad as them but just in different ways then what is the point?

Overall I will just say that I could go on, in length that is far beyond what I said as to why none of what any tech companies are doing works or should be uncritically supported or awkwardly accepted and even excused by the affected consumers, but I would need to go into political subjects way beyond what's probably allowed in a tech forum and I guess that you can infer from my deep, universal disdain for large corporations what that means.

You have been told long time that there was never problem with AMD supply of CPUs or GPUs. Problem is that demand exceeds supply. You could say exact same thing about consoles, Nvidia graphic cards, power supplies etc.

While your point about products are not delivered to "real" customers is somewhat true, what AMD can do about it? No matter if AMD sits for couple of months and then releases 3 times more products for once. Still, scalpers and bots could buy them and again you would again complain how "real" customers didn't get products and those "real" customers had to wait much longer because products could have been released earlier.

Stop blaming AMD because there is basically nothing AMD could have done better this time.

That's probably the worst analogy I've heard so far: There is no expiration date on a processor and you only need to be about as good as your competitor and AMD has been shown to be WAY PAST intel since Zen 1 was released: Yes they didn't have the IPC strength to compete one to one but their process and development was so efficient everybody could tell that even for single core task they were going to at the very least catch up to intel easily.

Oh? let me ask you what happens when you have a two year old cpu competing against something that was just released? Why didn't you sell what you had when the technology was fresh? "Oh but we took Dimitriid's advice and are selling it NOW because we wanted to make sure we had supply to sell to EVERY POSSIBLE customer."

It wasnt just "Bulldozer".

Dont ignore the illigal tactics employed by Intel to rob AMD of the badly needed sales back in the day, via bribes (like what they are still doing with their favorite partner, Dell) and other things.

Well, the product is barely being delivered. 5600x and 5800x it's sort of ok in some places but still widely unavailable. 5900x and 5950x are just all but unobtainable.

Supply is not merely waved away by saying "sure" this I've been saying for all of this thread.
In my view, this will only become a serious concern (or be termed as paper launch) if new products will be launched and none reach the consumer or no effort is put into availing said products. But right now, it is not a serious concern. The products are circulating, some faster than the others, while other regions are receiving more products than others, and it is all relative to a variety of variables. Taking all this into consideration including what previous posters have pointed out should make you agree that AMD has put on a compelling performance yet again this season.
