It starts with 100,000 apps and will end up with the world getting taken over. Google will control the world in 20 years from now... you heard it here first.

i'd rather Google than skynet!

... and Blackberry just passed the 300 mark, with a grand total of 5 useful apps.

OS 6 better knock my socks off or I'm switching to iPhandroid. :p

... and there are now 902 apps available for WP7 :D

But I'm def. glad Android has a growing catalog of apps. I wonder what % are free vs paid, as compared to iphone apps.

Now I shortly had an HTC Desire so I was able to experience the Android Marketplace for a bit and I wonder this; what do they consider an application? For example, when searching for the ADW Launcher, you have to scroll through PAGES of ADW Launcher Icons and Themes. Are all of those Icons and Themes considered Apps? Sounds ridiculous but you never know.

I think the world is becoming to dependent on their phones. I mean what did people do before their phones? I see them as an electronic leash. if you have a cellphone you can never have privacy. That is exactly why I don't have one.

Quality is important, not quantity! The apple store has 300000 and among them only 1000-2000 are useful and not just repeating the same thing.

And the fact that we only need a handful of useful app on our phone, and we have to choose them from 300000 app doesn't make any sense

very true. I have iphone myself and browsing through even just hundreds of apps is a daunting task. They should make a list and categorize each app to allow the user to select the app that he or she needs. Sometimes those apps are that useful.

I am so glad that the android market has finally hit this milestone, it at least gives me one more comparison in my futile attempts to convince the apple loving sheep that the iphone is not the only viable smart phone in town.

On the other hand though, I wish there was some better vetting process for android apps than having to rely on user ratings and android blogs to determine if an app is worthwhile and more importantly that the source of the app is trustworthy enough that I don't have to be constantly wondering if the next app I download is going to hijack my phone and send all my private contact and usage data to some hacker somewhere.

To me, this competition of who can get more apps to the market is quite unimportant. A typical user will only use so many apps is his phone and that is going to be enough.

The quality of the apps matter, not the quantity. And also, there are many apps in the android market such as Tasker that can do a lot of things within one app. So, 100,000 should be more than enough!!!!

i think the android is a great alternative to the iphone. i personally prefer android phones. but i think android wont be catching up anytime soon since apple had a head start and all.

theres great deal of potential in android phones but apple has more users. the number of apps doesnt really mean anything since most of them are useless to most users. dont get me wrong, some of them are really useful but it think people wont go through all that stuff.

in the near future i hope that androids will get much more developed and be able to surpass the iphone.

lol Kearnsy24, im going to be cursing your name in 20 years from now ahaha but this is a great marketing number for Android now, 100,000 apps on so many different brands of phones, compared to lock me up iphones, this should really help start selling alot more handsets in countries like australia where Android is unknown to the general public.

I would say that out of the 100,000 apps on android, ehhh, probably about 1,000 good ones. Apple has a far better ratio than Android market. Feel free to disagree.

Is there any reason, other than work, to get a blackberry anymore? The apps aren't very fun to use, rarely useful, and no where near as plentiful than iOS and Droid. My BB tour is long in the tooth compared to the current crop. atleast i know i'll end up with some good app choices when i switch.

No. Not even really for work, anymore, either; my Android phone plays nice with my office Exchange server.

This i like to hear! I've not got an iphone, BB or Android.

But my next phone is most likely to be using Android so bring on the apps!!!

100,000 apps probably includes ~50,000 porn apps, ~15,000 game apps, ~10,000 sound bites apps, ~5,000 jig saw puzzle apps, rest are apps that people actually browse through, and ~150-175 that i would consider useful (of which 47 made it to my phone)

I think the world is becoming to dependent on their phones. I mean what did people do before their phones? I see them as an electronic leash. if you have a cellphone you can never have privacy. That is exactly why I don't have one.

The same could be said of the world wide web.........which you are currently using. =O

Happy to see this, as I like to see Apple get beaten over and over.. So soon, I'll laugh at them for this too :)
