Digg founder and Google Ventures partner Kevin Rose found himself the target of anti-tech protestors over the weekend. The gatherers held up signs and passed out leaflets to Rose’s neighbors that portrayed him as a parasite within the community.

Rose posted a copy of one of the fliers on Instagram Sunday afternoon. The document says that as a partner venture capitalist at Google Ventures, Rose directs the flow of capital from Google into the tech startup bubble that is destroying San Francisco.

anti-tech kevin rose protestors anti-technology

It’s the startups that he funds that are bringing swarms of young entrepreneurs to the area, the leaflet reads. These techies on average earn four times more than a normal service worker. The group behind the protest said they are the ones serving them food, watching their kids, mopping their floors and apparently servicing them in other ways.

Simply put, the group said they are tired of the miserable and untenable situation.

Some of those that took part in the protest call themselves the Counterforce. They’ve penned a lengthy blog post about the whole situation for those interested in checking it out.

Tech industry protestors blame such high-paid tech employees for driving up the cost of rent and home ownership in San Francisco and Oakland as they migrate to these areas from Silicon Valley. It’s a real problem that even Rose was willing to acknowledge.

Despite the name-calling, Rose did agree on Twitter that they need to solve rising rent costs and keeping the San Francisco culture intact.

lolwut?

AKA people with way too much time on their hands. Should he be flattered for the attention?

So let me get this straight these "Anti-future/old miserable people" are protesting that them themselves should remain jobless and that big companies should have a maximum they can pay to their employees??? Now limiting the banks that got bailed out yes but big companies that have the money to pay for talent that just makes no sense its like asking albert einstein to make the lightbulb for $1 a hour.

I suggest reading up on "fairness" theology. This cultural phenomenon is less about rational economics and more about everyone getting a trophy for showing up for the game.

You could be 100% right, but I wonder if the driving force is about the increasing costs of rent, real-estate, etc which is pushing their dreams out of their reach. As far as the wording of that poster and that a group supports it, it is so far beyond ridiculous I'm not going to say anything more.

Would it be tech or any other industries that drives the costs of living up too rapidly, this protest highlights the increasing gap and inequality between the haves and have-nots. Kevin Rose seems to be the unfortunate target in this case.

The county I live in (in the US) has a homestead provision that prevents property taxes from being raised more than 3% a year, for example. Even so, that quickly add up for families who live from paycheck to paycheck. At the same time, higher pay pool usually translate to better facilities (parks, roads, schools, etc.) This is such a complex social issue and I don't pretend to know the answer.

Ye well lets be honest prices dont just increase it takes a company to want to make a profit which instead of blaming kevin rose on forcing companies to increase prices by putting them at gun point forcing president obama to follow his every word and nuke the russians.

I seriously hope people dont believe Kevin rose has that much power or that much money he can force any companies to change prices which if he does then he can destory the world and we will need austin powers to stop him.

Im just going to roll my eye at this article lol.

People are protesting it because of the rising costs to live in the San Francisco area due to the fact that hes bringing in young people for tech companies that make more than the average person. Well sorry to say but just because hes bringing more jobs to the area does not make him a bad person, the people charging more to live there are the problems.

If they want to protest something, protest the people up-charging on rent and what not instead of a guy bringing in more jobs to an area.

Not just that but its the fact that people are choosing to move to the area if they are actually moving there anyway and he is providing jobs to the area not getting people abroad to the area and giving them the jobs so I cant see what the problem is.

Its like blaming a new walmart store for the rise in housing prices lol.

There are many more parasites we should be looking at instead of Kevin Rose. Kevin Rose is not at the top of the latter.

Hint: "top 1000 richest people" (I'm willing to bet Kevin Rose is not on that list)

Some classy bunch of folks when they put words like "suck their ****" on the flyer.

Not even sure what to make of this, so because other people with certain skills they don't have make more money than them they complain about it?

You didn't hear? 7billion people on earth are protesting and rioting that bill gates gets paid too much and they dont get paid anywhere near that amount.

Maybe their argument is not stated all that well however the issue they bring up is a serious one. I think it's really how the city manages and balances out resources. The argument is that a group of people live in an area and are OK, then a group of rich people move into the same area which raises the prices for everyone, so the first group now find they are priced out of their environment. They feel they have no vote or choice in the situation, so they protest because they are upset by all this. It's a challenging situation for all and it seems like we as a society should be able to figure out a reasonable solution.

Well said.

Unfortunately like a nuclear missile you cant choose to stop someone from firing it at you same as with housing prices rising unless you are the person that chooses whether to fire it or not.

So unless you own the company that chooses to gain more profit by raising prices then unfortunately your out of luck just live with it like ukrain is whilst being invaded by russia.

Albert Einstein probably never made close to $1 a day.

I.E. what they teach kids in school these days. In grade school everyone gets a medal for competing in a "sport competition" despite how good or how bad they are.

Agree with lots of the posts above.

Went to the blog to read it, and lost interest within about three sentences. They put such gems in their writing as "well manicured hair". I had no idea that Rose's hair was actually thousands of fingers.

LMAO, perhaps if these *****s had applied themselves, they wouldn't be in "the service sector".
I'll bet you a hundred dollars, that if any one of these crybabies "won a million dollar lottery", they wouldn't "share the wealth" with their fellow "poor" people. They would move into a condo, loft or whatever and become what they protest. These clowns have bought into the argument that they are "poor" because someone else has more than they do. They have the 6 year old on the playground mentality that someone else has an ice cream cone & I don't and that's not fair. Thanks to our (un)education system for making these clowns into the people they are today.
