AnandTech ends its 27-year run in online tech publishing

The problem is, it’s getting more expensive and time consuming every year to to do thorough testing. You need an extensive lab as hardware is becoming more complex and nuanced. I’d say Gamers Nexus is a good example of how complex a simple cpu test has become. From a small startup to an entire crew just to create and analyse the data, then re-test to confirm, and do it all again if there’s a signicant update. If you miss anything, the tech savy readers will call you out instantly.
It’s not a big secret that actually knowing what’s inside your computer is getting less and less important to the masses either. Back in the days choices were slim when buying pre-built setups of any quality, so you had to learn quickly, mistakes where made - you turned to sites like Anandtech for advise, and learned to do it proper.
These days you don’t have to spend hours / days finding the correct drivers and tweaking your system just to make it work as intended.
A system will work out of the box, well enough to not have you coaming the web to gain the extra few % of performance.
We’ve become a niche, there’s still room for big sites with good funding, but the smaller sites will die over time
The hotness in the future is going to be engineering systems without any built in ai components.

"In his farewell post, Smith noted how written tech journalism is no longer what it once was, or will ever be again. Indeed, with the advent of social media and newer vehicles of content delivery like video, written media has certainly slowed down as of late."

"written tech journalism is no longer what it once was".... Then go to video reviews instead...!

Why in the hell are you shutting down the website for...?!

Because nobody visits the site. The owners clearly see no future for anandtech.

Since owning both AT and TH, Future probably only ever expected to keep one afloat. At best merging all the content into the one site, but more likely allowing stuff outside the overlap to fade out. A look at the wider mainstream internet suggests it's no real surprise that the more detail-oriented and in-depth technical articles are the ones earning less traffic, sorry, advertising revenue. They've probably been waiting a long time for the chance to pull AT's plug and cut their losses. Instead they prefer to churn out reams and reams of mindless drivel and re-posts via PC Gamer's various channels. Incidentally it's fun to occasionally see TS' expat Neeyik writing for them and providing better technical content in a single article than the rest of the team manage in months...

Sad. Long time member here. Still, understandable. They were a really good site and had some of their own software too. Sad to see them go. All good things come to an end I guess. It was a good run.

This generation's "Tech enthusiasts", (in reality gamer wannabes), Are a lazy, spoiled self indulgent, self entitled, bunch of useless toads.

When they're not asking the most basic, bordering on morbidly stupid questions, there's an A/I bot (artificial ignoramus) that insults your intelligence for them.

Remember, if you can't simply spell "Google", or know what a search engine is, you can always pester the people at >Quora<.

Here's a sample, "will I get more FPS if I push 4K resolution into a 1080p monitor, or should I buy a 4K monitor"? (Said the querant with his bad a** GTX 3050).

Better still, "I took the HDD out of my computer, put a new one in, and now it doesn't work, what should I do"?

So,this doesn't have anything to do with the demise of AnandTecn, or does it?

Once again, you're earning your screen name. There is some of what you say to go around, but there are a lot of really good techies out there, so to lump them all together as the group you described above is narrow and, well, cranky.

Ease up old man..

Jeez, I've only made a few posts, and already you seem to feel it's incumbent upon yourself to act as my self anointed moderator.

I made a generalization, so what? Are you worried I was including you in that demographic? I wasn't. But then again, you don't frequent Quora, now do you?

That said, I could have run off a dozen examples. Usually, I simply hit the trash with nonsensical question "requests". And anything that starts with, "can you answer this question", goes right along with it. (Those are the bot making up nonsense).

So, for all intents and purposes, you have no clue what I'm talking about. Yet here you are.

I get the feeling you don't particularly like me I at least have the common sense to avoid people I don't want to deal with. That's good advice. You should take it. Or perhaps try a different approach.

Well, there is that. Then again...

There is this.

Unable to admit it the last few weeks, today I finally deleted Anandtech.com from my browser bar.

Kinda hurt after all these years.

Not here. It's not a been a great place to visit in many years. Not a huge lost for the tech community currently.
