Yep, you said it. We tolerate them, cause we don't kill or treat them *** ill people. BUT, we shouldn't give the same rights as everyone. And that is the problem with "modern" countries like Holland, Belgium and the US. They have let them cross a normal limit and now they want to change everything from signs, books, clothes in school, raising kids (which btw, were conceived by a man and a woman - how surprising is that?) cause it is discriminating them. It is that type of situation where you give someone a finger of help and they take your whole hand.If I may contribute to this dumpster fire of comments:
Tolerance is big word. Those who feel the need to actively denigrate LGBT can pretty much be summed up as those who are fighting those impulses in themselves. It's the enemy within.
It's also important that Russia not be demonized excessively. Putin himself has said that gays should "of course, never be persecuted." Exact quote. Gay pride rallies are questionable in their usefulness at best. No, they should not be banned. But designating them as 'propaganda regarding sexual relations' is not such a stretch.
Tolerating minority lifestyles while not encouraging or promoting them is not an unreasonable stance. Russia's law is unnecessary, but it's a nervous, conservative culture. Not making too big a thing out of the issue either way strikes me as a sensible attitude.
As I said, we tolerate them and other types of people with all sorts of abnormalities, but there should be a limit. Like you don't give a drug addict guy rights to be a policeman or a president, you don't give rights to people that are confused by their gender. Same thing.
