Apple unveils the 5K Retina iMac with "the world's highest resolution display"

So 217ppi is now the 'highest resolution display', well maybe that would have been the case several years ago. Apple do always seem to be a little behind the times technology wise, it is just their designer who are awesome.

I said this when the original 'retina display' was released: this is the biggest waste of money!!! and it STILL is. the human eye CAN NOT SEE THAT MANY PIXELS. it is scientifically impossible. but leave it to apple to allow their fan-base to brag about wasting money on something that NO ONE can use...ever. there is no reason to have that resolution on a screen that small. on a 27" screen it would even be insanely difficult to tell the difference between 720p and 1080p. you cant do it. I dont care what anyone says. now, when the screen gets up to over 60" then sure one can slightly tell the difference between 1080p and 4k .... is it worth the 1500$ difference? of course not. maybe at 80". every time this crap gets released its the same BS over and over again. then people go out and WASTE their money on this crap and complain how bad the economy is...blah blah blah.

if you are wasting your "hard earned money" on this junk that you can not even USE then the economy is just fine.

Unless they sort out the font scaling, or invent human eye transplants, I am quite happy with 1080p or less.
This is an area where Apple has been way ahead of everyone else, it hasn't been an issue for years, the OS/GUI does scaling fine.

Does it come with a magnifying glass? If not, I ain't buying.
Why would you need a magnifying glass? It's called scaling, and is the same reason why you don't need a magnifying glass to read text on a 1920x1080 cell phone screen.

I have a 27' 2560x1440 @120hz 1ms IPS monitor. I'm waiting for a high res 21.9 aspect ratio IPS low response time screen that supports gsync/freesync. Until then I'll stick with my GTX 690 and current monitor.

Not used much apple stuff, So my presumption was made around windows.

Kudos to apple if they have this problem solved already, And damn my old eyes for causing it in the first place :)

Yeah 60hz is really pants. Fair enough use 60Hz every day and you will be happy as larry (http://www.phrases.org.uk/meanings/as-happy-as-larry.html) but once you move up to 120Hz, 144 etc you will never want to go back.

I can't wait for 200 4k+ display but we are a LONG LONG way from it. Display port 1.3 will be able to do 120Hz 4K but we are probs around 18 months + before we start seeing gpus and monitors supporting this (dont thin dp1.3 has been certified just yet?).
