Backing whatsapp to gdrive

Hi, I am unable to backup my whatsapp chat to gdrive. Have 100 GB space, whatsapp chats are mere 5GB. Still it does a local backup everyday at 2am, Google drive never happens. AT times it starts backing up, reaches 97% and crashes.
