Battlefield 3 official discussion thread

I have a feeling that performance is going to be markedly different from the multiplayer beta to the Single player retail release.

I have a similar feeling, even though it looks damned nice already, I think vehicles and larger maps might take their toll too.

yeah and betas a lot of times have missing textures, features, if not an entire graphics level. I am hoping that my setup is enough for Ultra @ 5760 x 1080 or 3240 x 1920, This looks like a game that will look/play very well on a multi monitor setup

*******Recommended Specifications
OS: Windows 7 64-bit
Processor: Quad-core CPU
Memory: 4GB RAM
Hard drive: 20GB
Graphics card: DirectX 11-compatible with 1GB of RAM (Nvidia GeForce GTX 560 or ATI Radeon 6950)
Sound card: DirectX compatible
Keyboard and mouse
DVD-ROM drive

From the Bit Gamer article:
When asked(Dice community manager Daniel Matros) if a single Nvidia GeForce GTX 580 1.5GB would have enough power to run the game at Ultra settings, Matros went on to say that if you were aiming for that level of detail from the Frostbite 2 engine, then you’ll probably need two GeForce GTX 580s in SLI configuration.

He did not mention what resolution he was referring to, but it's unlikely he was talking about a multi monitor resolution. more likely 1080P.

A game that might pull you away from playing nothing but Stalker mods? Wow, it must be looking good then ;) (just kidding)

:haha: alright! thats enough from you! I have been spreading it around a lot. i even picked up The Witcher 2 out of curiosity of the 'super sampling' that was impossible to run.

This article (http://www.pcgameshardware.com/aid,...cards-SLI-und-Crossfire-benchmarked/Practice/) suggests lower performance than what I've experienced. Will have to check the AF settings as I don't remember seeing them in the options. Maybe I'm running with no AF and that is why my FPS is high compared to these benchmarks. Then again in the SLI/Crossfire section they have a min fps of around the 40-50 mark so maybe my results aren't that much off.

well your working with a beta, I wonder if these guys have a different version. does your control panel look the same as theirs?

They are working with beta too, but no screenshot of control panel so can't tell. Will double check my AF settings and post back.

Is the beta actually up yet? its the 29th and almost lunch time here in the uk yet the Battlefield Site has not been updated to say its live and I cannot find a download in Orgin? Anyone else got the same issue?

If you bought Medal of Honor(or some other stuff) you got access to advanced beta, which started on the 27th.

Hi ,

To thank you for buying Medal of Honor Limited Edition/Tier 1 Edition, we would like to invite you to join the PC Open Beta 48 hours early.

The purpose of the Open Beta is to give you an early look at Battlefield 3 as well as give us a chance to get your feedback. Make sure to visit battlelog.battlefield.com for forums, powerful social features, a feed of your friends' progress and achievements and detailed player stats and leader boards.

So technically 29th should be full open beta, strange that it hasn't been listed yet.
But it's not going to be for long - "Dates: September 27th - October 10th"

Hmm just had a quick blast at lunchtime and with CF enabled was only getting about 50 FPS indoors. Never changed any settings, so will have to investigate what has changed. Unless the settings I changed weren't applied until game restart? Who knows.

Perhaps the +4 MSAA wasn't applied until a complete restart of the game. Will try turning it off at lunchtime and see if the FPS returns back to the level I previously had.

Sweet! but where?! I can't find it?

It appear when you have the Origin Client installed

@ Arris,
are you using the CCC 11.10 preview drivers? it is the BF3 revision you know.

Well something isnt working up to par just yet. I set everything to Ultra, but I don't think it looks so ultra. see for yourself

Yeah, I installed them before the beta game :)
It was AA that wasn't activated before restarting the game. Nice and smooth and tbh can't see much difference at 1920x1200. Although now I've found myself crawling through the ground, must be using prone more than when I first started playing the beta.

Apart from that issue and disconnecting I quite like the game so far. But then again I liked BF2:BC2 too :)

Well I've been playing the beta and so far I like it. The graphics are amazing, gameplay is pretty smooth minus some outside areas in metro. I do however hate how it launches through web browser, I hope they change that for the actual game. Also is anybody else annoyed by all the badges and the end of a round and that sound every time it shows you the next badge? Haha it was cool for a whole 2secs.

Also a chat message system in the browser instead of the game is another annoyance. Yeah the badge parade is a bit repetitive.

Here is some gameplay footage I took yesterday ;) Will be recording tomorrow with 1280x1024 res and everything on "ultra" as well as MB @ 100, vid will be running at 30FPS.

Also someone on MMO-Champion posted some terrible news, at least in my eye.

...yes you'll have to use the browser and they have also confirmed that it WON'T be possible to manage your squad ingame.

No in game squad management. But.. but.. If I end up in a tank with someone and we do well I usually switch into their squad. Makes sense for a number of reasons. I wonder what the logic behind that is... Maybe to stop switching squads to get a better spawning position or other balancing reason.

I do not appreciate not being able to choose squads. I usually have 2 or 3 friends getting onto the same server with me (PC) and I cannot seem to get into the same squad. That ruins part of the game (voice communication and tactics).

Haven't had a chance to play with friends yet but thought that maybe the drop in section to add friends would then put you all in the same squad? If it doesn't then the lack of changing squads is a big mistake!

Ya the squad management is awful, I hope they do away with it and go back to something like BC2/BF2 as it makes team play significantly harder. The game in general has a lot of little issues that start to add up imo, but I'm trying not to be overly disappointed since this is an early build and hopefully DICE will have them fixed.

My biggest complaint by far from a gameplay standpoint is the terrible hit registration. I am very disappointed that it feels so bad, even worse than BC2 which DICE explicitly said would be hugely improved. When I'm not running around with what feels like a BB-Gun, I am being insta-killed or dying seconds later after diving behind cover.

[Edit] Here's a video showing off what I'm talking about made by another user experiencing the same issues.

Performance wise I'm pretty satisfied as the game in general feels decently smooth minus lag/glitches. Been running FRAPS benchmarks throughout the week and here are my results:

Metro Outside (First MCOMS) - Average 43
Metro Subway (Second MCOMS) - Average 52
Caspian Border - Average 44 (didn't get that much time here and only took a few samples)

My system setup is pretty much what I have in my specs, however my X4 is OC'd at 3.5 and my 6850 is at stock atm. Don't think I'll mess around with anything hardware wise till release. I was able to squeeze a modest boost out of BC2, so I'm hoping I can do the same here.

I'll be playing throughout the week if anyone is interested just hit me up, I'm Relic28. Might want to add me on Steam since I keep that on whenever I'm online.
