Boot problems

I own a dell computer, after I get past the dell logo screen, it gives me an error message saying that the windows/system32/config/system file is missing or corrupt. What do i do?

Put your windows disk in the computer and boot to it. Once you do, continue through the prompts. Go to the "Recovery Console" and then upon reaching the c:\ prompt, type CHKDSK. Let that run and reboot (Not to the cd, just normally), see if it works. If not, I would do a repair on the windows files. To do this, boot to the cd, and wait till it checks your hard drive. It will then say "Press R for repair". (NOT RECOVERY CONSOLE, a little past that prompt). This will erase the files in your c:\windows folder and replace them. This will then go through the windows setup, but once it finishes your files will still be there the way you left them.
