Bottom line: Developer Gearbox Software and publisher 2K have announced a new Borderlands bundle with a unique pricing structure. Your existing Borderlands library will largely dictate how good of a deal this is.

Borderlands Collection: Pandora's Box includes all of the franchise's base games. For those not keeping score, that consists of the original Borderlands (2009), Borderlands 2 (2012), Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel (2014), Tales from the Borderlands (2014), Borderlands 3 (2019), and New Tales from the Borderlands (2022).

Buyers also get all associated downloadable content, all in one tidy offering that's heading to PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series, and PC (via Steam) on September 1. The digital-only bundle is priced at $149.99 for those new to the franchise, but is on sale for a limited time for only $59.99. Now comes the convoluted part – pricing.

Per 2K, if you already own one or more Borderlands games, pricing will look like this:

  • Xbox - If you already own a digital copy of any Borderlands game within the Borderlands Collection: Pandora's Box on Xbox Series or Xbox One and want to complete your collection, the Microsoft Store automatically entitles you to a special $30 price on the bundle.
  • Steam - If you already own a digital copy of any Borderlands game within the Borderlands Collection: Pandora's Box on Steam, you'll only pay for the content you don't already own. Further details will be reflected on the Steam store page for the bundle, which doesn't appear to be live as of this writing.
  • PlayStation - If you already own a digital or physical copy of Borderlands: Game of the Year Edition or Borderlands: The Handsome Collection for PlayStation 4, or a digital or physical copy of Borderlands 3 on PlayStation 5 or PlayStation 4, and want to complete your collection, you can access a special $30 upgrade offer on Borderlands Collection: Pandora's Box by launching one of these titles and following the in-game instructions.

Nintendo Switch owners can't participate, but 2K did reveal that Borderlands 3 Ultimate Edition is coming to the Switch later this year. Ultimate Edition includes the base game, all six DLC bundles, and all bonus cosmetic packs. Interested parties can pre-order now for $59.99 ahead of a planned October 6 launch.

I suspect there's a lot of PC users who have Borderlands 3, only, on Epic because it was exclusive there; and one or more other titles on Steam. That may make this a little less enticing or straight forward than it otherwise would have been.

On the other hand, plenty of these titles have been highly discounted before so franchise fans probably have all the content they need anyway.
