I'm having intermittent problems accessing web pages. I have both Firefox and IE installed on my computer and primarily use Firefox. Firefox did some kind of automatic install 2 or 3 days ago. Current version is 2.0.0.1 but I did do a system restore to a few days back.
I am operating a home LAN with a total of three computer including mine through a microsoft router.
When I load web pages, I am frequently (maybe 1/4 of the time) getting the following standard script:
Server not found
Firefox can't find the server at www.boatingabc.com.
* Check the address for typing errors such as
ww.example.com instead of
www.example.com
* If you are unable to load any pages, check your computer's network
connection.
* If your computer or network is protected by a firewall or proxy, make sure that Firefox is permitted to access the Web.
If I retry about 2, 3, 4 times...it ends up working. I am tending to think that something is wrong with the DNS ...but don't know how to tell. The other computers on the LAN don't seem to be experiencing the same problem. The router is set to get the DNS server automatically...so I would think that it was a problem resolving the IP addresses that all the computers would be having the same problem.
I get a similar error using IE except it appears to be slightly less frequent.
I downloaded a freeware program called bazooka spyware cleaner and it gave me a clean scan.
I have windows updates disabled and have not done such an update for some time. The computer is a budget 2 year old emachines.
