California politician wants to ban the sale of Elon Musk's flamethrower in the state

I love Elon Musk and still think this device should be banned. My faith in humanity isn't great enough to put this type of tool in an everyday user's hands. Next we'll be hearing about people who get burned but "Flame throwers don't kill people, people kill people." I'd rather not arm those stupid people with another cool toy to kill other people with. Thousands of people are losing their homes in CA right now due to fire - it really makes sense to me.
Ban Assault Cars.

People are really setting some outlandish expectations for this thing. Flames under 10ft...It's a novelty. The BB gun of flamethrowers.....[ ]....
Sometimes things, let's say TVs for example, look way smaller in the store, than they do when you get them home. In the context of a smaller or medium house, 10 ft. is a pretty good distance.

So I'll play with it outside, you say. But when everything outside is basically tinder, 10 feet is a good long distance there too.

In fact, forest fires have been started by the lowly still lit cigarette butt, let alone a toy flame thrower.

10ft is even a gross exaggeration -

It's a non-issue. Any adult can go to their local Walmart and buy a device capable of starting a forest fire. It's either government trying to hold the hands of those not capable of surviving alone, or a politician going for his 3 seconds of fame.

Well you don't know, that might be a half empty propane/ butane tank.

Musk is leeching for his place in the limelight of absurdity, why not let the politico share it?

Besides, the government has already, "been holding the hands of those who are not capable of surviving alone", for decades. It called "welfare", ever heard of it? So why should it back off now?

LOL...these CA politicians wetting themselves about this over-sized butane torch are the same dullards who don't know the basics about firearms that they rant are 'assault weapons'.

Obviously I'm not talking about welfare. We're talking about regulating a "flamethrower" (aka, torch).

Leeching from the limelight of absurdity? Musk is a pioneer of what was once unfathomable technology. If he wants to have a little fun and back a novelty flamethrower...more power to him.

But you have no respect for the man who doesn't listen when people tell him it's not possible. When you're a billionaire feel free to invest in the safe things and live under the radar. But if that's how you think, I don't think you'll ever be a billionaire.

If I shoved a pair of VR goggles up my a**, I'd still have a more realistic view of Musk's achievements than you do.

Musk hasn't done squat past reading Sci-fi comic books, and running his yap. The people who work for him are who should be given all the credit.

Tesla itself has run at losses up to 1/4 billion dollars a quarter, yet people keep making its stock prices go up, by listening to Musk nonsense such as, "it's possible that we're living in computer simulation.

Jean Paul Sarte's view on existentialism, was every bit as nonsensical, and nauseating to read as well.

I don't give a flying booger about the flamethrower toy, California should ban Musk instead.

I'll never understand the absurd hate for Musk. It's almost invariably some form of anti-capitalist idealism that fuels it. The only exceptions are those republicans who get funded by incumbent companies in the relevant fields, especially those representing ULA.

Neither will they:

How is the present system called "capitalism" any different from what was once called feudalism?

In general not very. Save for the fact that none of the major corporate headquarters, or seats of government, have moats and drawbridges.

(Of course the new Apple campus, may become an exception. We'll have to see).

As I see it, most of them do have the modern equivalent(s).

Just market it as a portable barbecue
When I heard about this the first time Barbecue is the first thing to come to mind. How well will this cook burgers.
Followed by the story of the guy who used a flamethrower to clear snow from his driveway!
Both good ideas.
A 10 foot, (exaggerated?), flame as an offensive weapon? Um, no. Nice try with the WWII photo above but this isn’t a military 25 foot long 10 foot ball unit. It’s a cigarette lighter on steroids.

Why does everybody think this is about the flamethrower? >The "flamethrower", is a "publicity stunt"! <

It's about Musk's fund raising tactics to try and build tunnels under LA, so he can get home from work sooner.

Now, in earlier articles here at Techspot, Musk himself thought that was a crazy idea. But people starting throwing money at it, because after all, this was, "Musk the great scientist", running his yap about how he was going to build, "a faster boring machine". He's most likely put those early investments in his bank account, so he's selling these flamethrowers to continue pretending this is a viable venture.
Musk's chief talent, is the fact he could talk a vulture off a dead animal. Methinks he likely speaks their language.

And BTW, I seriously doubt, you could barbecue chicken with that, (as someone suggested, or any other flamethrower, All you'd most likely have, is a rock hard charcoal shell on the outside, and salmonella infected raw chicken on the inside.

"Probably"
"Most likely"
"Methinks"

All your hate for Musk is based off assumption. Not everything a rich person does has to be a publicity stunt...

Why does everybody think this is about the flamethrower?
Because for me that’s what it’s about. Could care less about musk. I’m interested in the lighter on steroids.

I know you’re handle is cranky but seriously if you’ve got all this hate you should probably talk to someone about it. It’s not healthy.

Sometimes the topic at face value is enough.

No. My appraisal of Musk and his exploits is based on what has been published both here at Techspot, and network news coverage.

Since you apparently do't like conditional statements, how about if I go with something more concrete? You definitely haven't been here long enough to have read Techspot's coverage, let alone evaluate my statements about him, which BTW are based on facts.

How about this one, Tesla was reporting a 1/4 billion dollar loss, while Musk was giving a press conference on a spacesuit he was going to have "commissioned", for his Martian colony. He didn't even have a sample. The only "hard evidence", was presented as "artist's conception drawings", not him. If that's not a diversion tactic, nothing is.

Since you've thoughtfully provided us with a personality evaluation of my shortcomings, how about if we tackle yours?

....[] ]....All your hate for Musk is based off assumption. Not everything a rich person does has to be a publicity stunt...
My response: You're a naive child, unaware of of ulterior motives in people, and completely blind to those of Musk. You're so completely enveloped in hero worship and idolatry of Musk, we couldn't get a clear thought about him from you, if we gave you a month of Sundays to think about it.

Hey, jus' sayin'.

Musk is a pioneer of what was once unfathomable technology.
Which "unfatomable technology" is that?

Electric automobiles? (Not) Lithium batteries? (Not) Solar panels? (Not) Tunnel boring? (Not) Flamethrowers? (Certainly not)

Like you will. Spare me
