We've thought about it. May end up implementing one later this year.
The main reason we didn't before is that our forum software didn't offer the option and would have required a third-party add-on/coding, which makes later security upgrades more troublesome. I think that's now resolved so we'll revisit that soon.

All a "Thumbs down button" accomplishes is weaponize personal grudges, no matter how petty they may be

If you insist on implementing it, then make sure you add warnings and bans attached to overuse, abuse, summary use for personal reasons, and vendettas.

Speaking for myself, if I don't like someone or disagree with them, I'll manifest it in my reply, NOT kick back and push a button from some dark corner of the forum..

For feedback and discussion on things you like/dislike about the site, we have a forum for that and I usually participate on each one of those.

As for the original intent of this post, if you feel like it's worth your time, please do contribute with your thoughts/feedback on the sites mentioned. We were looking to add feedback from actual readers and members of the site.

In this case, it's purely political in nature. After all, how many promises, concessions, and lies, does the typical candidate have to make or tell, before they get someone to vote for them?

It follows in a sequitur fashion, how many changes would you have to make before they'll take the trouble to write a review in your favor?

I don't have much to complain about. Maybe sometimes there are not many things happening in the tech world and because of it some articles are unrelated and of lower quality than usual but it's all good. The comment section usually gets derailed but I can't complain since I do it as well all the time.

Ironically I care nothing about hardware reviews or the forums and still love this site. It has pretty good coverage of all tech news and the audience has pretty diverse opinions too, which I appreciate. The moderation on here hasn’t affected me and I wouldn’t get triggered if thumbs downs were added and people didn’t like my opinions lol.

But maybe consider setting up a Discord? I’d be happy to participate in that. It can even be used for your writers with private channels. It probably would compete with your own forums though.

I’ve had more posts deleted than that. And that’s fine. Not my site, and arguably little of value was lost.

As I said earlier, I've had literally hundreds of posts pulled.

Some with good reason, such as I went too far in a response.

Some, I put up with full knowledge in advance that they would be yanked. Such as making my point to a prior post I knew would be yanked.

@mailpup normally notifies me when that happens.

I can't say I'm butt hurt about any of it. I sit at my computer without a hint of painful rectal itch afterwards.

Now, I've been here long enough to know whether what I put up will be pulled beforehand.

And for those still mystified as to why their post came down, I'd suggest, "getting in touch with your feelings", or, "stop popping the clutch on your mouth, before you put your brain in gear".

I just want to post this quickly, and I will do what was originally asked for soon.

What I like is the same thing I liked back in the late 90s. The tech articles and opinions on it. I didn't first register until the early 2000s (03-04) but since then it is still the same.

Much of the moderation here is, inconsistent. If a mod wants to bowl over a post like it was a link to porn, then at least make it clear why. I mean the real reason, because "off-topic" wore thin a long time ago.

I have no problem not giving a thumbs up, but I would not give a thumbs down to anyone. It seems so cheap and removes the incentive to rebut.

I think the term, "thumbs up", was being used as a synonym for "like",
Were a "thumbs down" to be implemented, it's logical to assume that "like", would either have to be accompanied by, "dislike", (a bit awkward), or changed to "thumbs up". At least that's my relatively uneducated take on English syntax.
