Can't connect to the internet

My friend gave me his laptop to work on. it is an Acer Aspire 5610Z containing an Atheros AR5007EG Wireless Network Adapter. He did something so that now, he can connect to a network, however it will not connect to the internet. I checked that he's not trying to connect to a proxy. if anyone could help me troubleshoot this, i would appreciate it.

What operating system is on the laptop? Is it fully updated using the Windows Update website?

it is running Vista Home Premium, and yes, it is fully updated. I'm thinking the driver could just need updated/reinstalled

Yes try that first, as most techs would do that first...

ok i reinstalled the wireless drivers and it's working fine. i was WAY overthinking it
