cant delete images.

i downloaded some photos and now i cant delete them. when i open the image it says 'no preview available' when i right click the image all it says is preview, edit, print, open with and sent to. i cant do anything with it.
i cant drag them to the desktop or the recycling bin. its like they arnt there anymore but the icons are still there.
