CCleaner may be installing Avast anti-virus without your permission

Yes Ccleaner is installing software without asking, and it recently happened to me! I read EVERYTHING when I install anything, and I recently re installed Ccleaner after having uninstalled it after the spyware incident during the summer. I started having problems on my Dell 6530 almost immediately afterwards. IE:
*I went from :34 boot to 2:15
*Programs disappeared without a trace
*Crashes for the first time since buying the Dell 2 years ago
*Other oddities
I started digging, and sure enough, buried in my system was Avast, which I wouldn't use any day, and explorer showed that the install was at the same time as Ccleaner. The problem is, is that Avast was installed alongside other AV ware, and they are NOT compatible whatsoever! I uninstalled both Cclean and Avast, but still have issues, and it appears I have to do a complete Win 7 reinstall tooth pulling session. I HATE reinstalls of an op system, but it's worse than that as I also have to reinstall Linux Mint, as I DID have it set up for a perfect dual boot config. I can only hope it comes out right this time! Screw Cclean as well as Avast!

Save yourself some anguish and do a Windows 7 repair install. It should take care of any of Windows own files that are messed up. And then, you have go thru the whole never-ending Windows 7 update again.

To those keeping CCleaner for its "uninstall" feature... I use the free version of RevoUninstaller for this. I bought Revo Pro since the product is so good, but stay with the freeware as it's easier to move, maintain etc. and does all I need. Try that.
I agree, Revo free is great, but CCleaner, the old version, is also good.

I've heard America's (one of the) national pastime(s) is suing someone for any reason. Someone there should sue Avast.

Hi there,

CCleaner was developed to always ask for user permission to install any additional software. Every user should always see a consent screen whenever they install CCleaner when any other software is offered - and this is something we take very seriously!

Thanks to our users, a bug was reported which meant that in very isolated scenarios, the user permission box that was designed to display was not shown. With some help from our users we were able to replicate the issue and this bug was fixed with the release of CCleaner version 5.51.

Please update to the latest version of CCleaner and if you have any questions please send them to support@ccleaner.com so we can help.

Thanks.

...[ ].... Most other antivirus and internet security suites, particularly Avast and AVG, now spy on you almost as much as the things their supposed to protect you against!....[ ]....
I know right? I have a dedicated erotica hunter machine which is always connected to a VPN. I get the biggest charge out of AVG when it pops up a message, "your IP is exposed. You're at 666.66.66.66 in the middle of a swamp in Indonesia. Let us fix that for you"...
If you want to minimize the amount of corporate data scraping on your system you should really use either Windows 7, Linux or a Mac.
Dude, you're a stone cold, completely out of touch Luddite, recommending Windows 7 like that. Why Windows 10 is much faster, it boots in about 2 seconds, and you don't have to screw around with updates, it does that all for you. It also takes you right to the Windows store, where you can buy programs you've become shabbily accustomed to getting for free...(y) (Y)

I'm going to try and build a PC worthy of its excellence, and have a copy installed, at least within the next two decades...
