Cd/dvd problem

i have a gateway m320
installed xp clean install
DVD player will only read some DVDs and Cd's
not the disks as they work great on many other computers with xp
whats the deal i downloaded drivers from gateway
even installed drive and reinstalled
i don't understand why its doing this.
can anyone give me an idea
I'm sure it's something stupid that I'm overlooking
it won't eve recognize DVD cleaner
checked bios to be sure it's recognized
tried user setting and auto
don't get it

The optical drive might be faulty. They don't last forever. You can always replace it.

I second Mailpup. The M320 has an optical drive that only lasts about a year if it is heavily used. You might try a gentle cleaning with a little Dust Off to be sure it is not just lint on the lens.
