CD-ROM not recognized

Windows xp home when i put a disc in to burn anything i keep getting put disc in when it is already in. There all brand new discs that i put in. One thing I tried to do is back up for 360 it went to 10% then it said insert disc

Have you tried a different brand of CDs? Some drives just don't like some CDs. Maybe update the firmware of the drive?

it was hapening with me, and the problem was such brands of cds.
