Doom: The Dark Ages discs contain almost no data, require full game downloads

One of the biggest reasons they do this is because they are polishing the game right up to release, so whatever data the printed to discs would be outdated and need to be patched immediately anyway.

How about they make it polished before the release? Crazy huh.

People like you is the reason why gaming industry is **** now.

I'd say people with diminished storage space care.
We’re taking about installing the same amount of data either from the disc or from the internet. In other words, you’d need storage space in any case.

Not to mention the fact that you’d have to download dozens of GBs of patches anyway. So in a funny way, disc installs actually take MORE time and space and cpu cycles and SSD writes to install, not less, because first it copies all the old crap from the disc, then downloads the new stuff from the internet, then transactionally patches the old crap, finally removes the unused old parts.

That’s precisely why Doom decided to get rid of the disc data in the first place.

But then we’ll get ADHD people complain like but but muh content, I need weekly updates and seasons and cosmetics and stuff

Hard, since XSX and PS5 Blu-ray players are hardware limited to 100GB.
Your second sentence doesn't make sense from a business perspective. Companies rarely offer more at the same price.
As Theinsanegamer highlighted, if the hardware only supports 100 GB discs, and the data is greater than the storage capacity of said disc, provide more discs like back in the good old days.

Alternatively, provide a double sided 50 GB or 100 GB disc.

Who cares???
Seat there and wait for the entire 100GB download that should have been on the Disc to begin is Microsoft's way to force you to get accustomed to a world with just Gamepass, a world with just Digital Only gaming in which it benefits them by rewiring your brain away from from gaming preservation and physical gaming ownership.

Some people are really corporate apologists and complicit of their terrible business decisions as we can clearly see on here.
It's been pretty much digital only gaming for 95% of the world for the last 10-15 years, easy. It's only the very few of the minority that are being sticklers. No one cares for that 5%. Just be glad they let you limp along as long as they did. I for one woulda cut physical media a decade ago, as all it does is bleed profits for zero gain.

Can I get a source on that 95% number?

Why do you think they don't do that anymore?
It's most likely a cost cutting exercise by companies to save money. They save by not paying for physical media, media production costs, logistics and warehousing.

The thing about this particular company and game though, is they are already providing physical media, so they are not saving in any of the above areas, so why not provide the full game.

The trend and goal is to move away from physical media entirely (games and movies), so why would you think more discs would be a solution for games over 100GB?

Why not provide the full game in this particular game? Read the first sentence in your reply again.

Regardless of any trends to move away from physical media, you are missing my point entirely - the game in question fits on a single 100 GB disc, and they are already providing physical media, so just put the entire game on the disc.

Your point isn't reality. When you can observe and think like a business and not just a gamer, you'll be better informed.

People using Apple computers do. Apple still sells 512GB storage computers.

Even if the full game were on the disc it would still have to be installed to the hard drive so as far as storage space is concerned it would make absolutely no difference.

when is the last time a PC you purchased had a CD drive?

Same clowns complaining about downloads are the same ones downloading the latest CoD every year and every other game.

PC hasnt had physical media in a very long time. Its dead.

I ahd to buy a blank DVD recently because I have an elderly customer who wants to copy some old home movies. I had to order it online because non of the stores sell them anymore.
