hiya every1,
a friend of the family is running vista on his laptop, his son set himself as the admin as he got his hands on the laptop first, he then decided to change the password and he has now forgotten it, as he is the only user with admin privilleges no1 else can install anything, at first i said i could do it as i didn know he was running vista and i thought he was running xp, but now i have no idea how to do this as all market software requires installation and tht requires admin rights and password is there anything else i could try for instance a piece of code typed in the cmd

obviously last resort would be format the drive and start again

any help would be much appreciated thank you

max

Try booting into Safe Mode; tapping f8 1/sec until you get the prompt

depending upon how it was all installed, you *may* be able to login the
Administrator id using an empty password.

If so, await the desktop, the run->control->User Accounts
Change Password on the Administrator login you just go in with
Find other Admin accounts and change those logins (differently)

and record all of these changes somewhere not on the machine :)

net user administrator passwd

where administrator is desired account and passwd id the desired passwd
i think they fixed the safe mode trick with vista.....rightfully so....serious flaw

just noticed the non-admin part....good luck

I've always used 'active password changer', works fine for XP and Vista.
You will need to install it on another pc, which surely isn't a problem for you, (unless you live on your own islands with no neighbours), just to create a boot disk for APC and away you go.
