Chinese graphics maker is developing a GPU to rival Nvidia's GTX 1080

It's not amazing what the Chinese can do, after all, they surely stole American technology and illegally copied their IP like they did with most everything they have. BUY AMERICAN PEOPLE!
When you say " BUY AMERICAN PEOPLE ! " some question come to mind .Can you remind me which cell phones are made in the USA ? Which computers and or computer parts are made in the USA ? And which TVs and LCD and/or OLED screens are made in the USA ..... well basically what is Made in the USA anymore and even if they start to produce anything in the USA how much will it all cost as wages are much higher in the USA than China and the USA would need to develop many many robotic factories to produce much of these parts and I assume all that wont be cheap or provided by the USA government for free !

If it doesn't support Direct3D then what's the point? Don't most games require it?

On PC, yes, but not because they can't use another API. Most games that run on Windows also run on the PS4, and that doesn't have D3D in any form.

BUY AMERICAN PEOPLE!

Unfortunately I think that buying people is prohibited in most places. And besides, American people tend to be rude and opinionated, so given the choice, might as well buy some Europeans instead.

That's the thing, isn't it? Who cares about Direct3D.

There's a 2.7 billion strong market between India and China alone. Develop a "competent" GPU, cultivate talent to go to work on it, and you'll see a new ecosystem of platforms and titles to fill them.

Just because the current "China special" right now is a famicom emulator with the same 33 games looping forever doesn't mean it has to stay that way.

2.7 billion with 99+% of them so poor they can't afford a bowl of rice. The TRUE market is much, much smaller than 2.7 billion!

The idea that less than 1% of Chinese citizens are able to afford food is completely absurd. That would be a state of famine. There are plenty of things to criticize China for without making stuff up.

Probably more apt for North Korea on that one.

Omg not something better than the old 1080! wow and its made by chinese people who hate america and send us cyberattacks all the time and spy on us and steal our jobs! holy jumping jehoshaphat I can't wait to never buy that. get this chinese garbage out of here. supposedly the most advanced country when it comes to technology and you can't even compete with a 2080? what a joke.

You can laugh, but they adapt like Borg. Their car industry progressed from copying 1980-like cars, to 2015-like cars in just 5 years (and not 35). Once they make an Nvidia 1080 clone, the next one they produce will directly compete with Nvidia 3080.

China was the world's largest economy for a couple of millennia, it just sees itself as regaining that position after a slight blip of two hundred years or so.

Just shows what inward-turning, protectionist, anti-foreigner, populist nationalism can do to a previously wealthy polity... an unjustified belief in god-given exceptionalism never stands up to reality in the end. But then China had to go thru decades of war, famine and poverty to learn that lesson...

Pretty impressive for an upstart Chinese company. If the price was right and its fully compatible Id try one. I'm still running on an "ancient" GTX980 in both my gaming PCs

If you are thinking of mobile games then yeah, nobody cares. PC and consoles (all consoles combined) are pretty much the same revenue wise (at around 25% each). I have no idea why you think PC is a small market.
25% is a small market compared to 75% of the market that is not.

the point is no intelligent american would buy it

That first part sounds like North Korea and not China. If you know a bit of history: China only has a hate-relationship with Japan; it is more likely to find America hating China a lot more than China hates America. As for "stealing your jobs"... what jobs exactly?
Yeah, the Chinese aren't stealing anyone's jobs, it's the rich capitalists who are outsourcing everything to China. It's Americans screwing Americans.
