Computer crashes and freezes -THE MOST ANNOYING THING!!

Can anybody tell me why oh why my computer keeps frezing and sometimes just switching itself off?? It does this sometimes up to 10 times a day even if I'm just running internet explorer. Somebody said it could be the processer over heating. . . . .????

Think you may need to give more detail. What is it? A desktop or a laptop?

Is there anything that commonly happens before this problem? Any information you can give may help

It's a desktop, nothing specific really happens before it freezes it's just random.

It can happen up to 10 times a day even after the PC has been restarted. I've tried cleaning the hard disk, and defragmenting it, it still happens.
