Hi

I have a HD drive which is coming to the end of its useful days - so I bought a new one.

I use Paragon's Partition manager to copy the old to the new drive... Problem. It won't copy the drive, nor the partition. I can copy all the files but of course the new drive won't boot.

I've defragmented the old drive, Chkdsk /f, used Paragon's File Integrety Option and surface tested the old drive.

  1. Chkdsk found a few problems and reported that it had corrected them.
  2. Paragons' File Integrety was happy after Chkdsk.
  3. Surface Testing produced an I/O Error which I still can't get rid of.
What is the collective's view of what I should do next?

The Drive is currently quite happy but I have not intention of leaving it.

Regards

Try using a program like Seagate's DiskWizard to clone and install the new drive. If this fails, the old drive is toast and you'll be better off starting with a fresh OS install

Oh dear - Seagate copied the drive without any problem. I'll email my discoveries to Paragon to see what they've got to say...

Regards
