The very point of RMA is that you can return a faulty product. And no, the clicks or clonks are not part of the normal operation of a hard drive. Of course you may be having controller issues instead of a bad HD.
No company is picky about RMA. It is cheaper for them to send you a replacement, check/fix the one you sent and sell it again. This produces happy customers and gives the impression of good service.
