Desktop broken?

i loged on my pc and my desktop only has the trash can on it a a window pops up

Location is not available
C:/Users/-------/Desktop is not accessible.
the file or directory is corrupted and unreadable.

how do i fix that... and plz dont make me download a program that will cost me $ cus i have none.

havent tryed. i can run it normaly my desctop icons just are not there. there not hiding or any thing. the file that remebers what is there is messed up.
