Drivers for Canon mP170

I think I'm in the right place. I am temporarily using my daughter's Netbook and have attached my printer. I have successfully printed things etc but when I have tried to use the scanner by pushing the appropriate button, nothing happens. I have tried downloading a driver which I presume is what I needed to do, but even after completion of the installation nothing happens. I'm not really sure I'm even downloading the correct driver, can anyone help. I don't have the original cd and either way the netbook doesn't have a DVD Driver.
