Heres a poll with about 200 people who have played the full version, 80%+ say its good I like it. Spoilers in that thread btw.

DNF: I liked it from start to finish, the jokes, sexism, etc etc. was actually entertaining, repetitive game play...huh its a normal shooter arcade but with environments. I finished the game... it lasted longer the Portal 2 from start to finish...hahahahah

Played the leaked torrent for the PC...yeah, it sucked, but was still kind of nice to kick as* and chew bubble gum...too bad the game was out of gum.
When it shows up on the bargain bin for 19.99, I'll get it, just to have it, but I sure wouldn't pay 50 bucks or more for it.

Time to kick *** and chew bubble gum, and I'm all out of gum... The whole point of that is that hes out of gum so the only thing left to do is kick ***. If anything your trying to say it has to much gum.

Gearbox should've built the game from ground up. It's never a good idea to use code from almost a decade back. The facial animations, movement, environments are all last generation. And no matter how much you say that the game is all retro, you WILL be bugged by crappy graphics and bad character design. The graphics wouldn't have mattered if the game play was fun, and it's not. This is just a bad game people. You have to admit that. I'm a Duke fan myself, but I was totally turned off by the game. Here's hoping that the next iteration of Duke will be as good as Duke 3D.

The trailer has put me off this game. Too much bad language, sex, drugs and basic crudness. Good riddance Duke.

Well thanks for telling us you're completely unaware of the point behind duke nukem.

I agree with Princeton. Does the guest have a clue what the whole franchise is even about?

Let's see what the original Duke was about:

-most innovative graphics at the time
-great level design which encouraged and rewarded exploration (weapons, etc), and not picking up feces from a toilet like the sequel
-you could hold more than 2 weapons in 1996
-the jokes were actually funny for that time

When 2 people say you're drunk, go home.

Why would you even look at Duke Nukem if that puts you off. I mean if there's certain factors that are a given with games like this it's bad language, sex and drugs and violence.

I have to disagree with the total failure comments. I played the Demo and it did suck. But the full game was much better and ran surprisinly better. Graphics were OK, nothing special but the trade off was a fast paced game at 2560*1600 will full graphics on a 3+ YO computer.

The gags were old, the sex badly done in parts, and for me it was a bit too much of a platform game. It suffered from "dumbed down for console". But something made me play it to the end as soon as I got it. 7/10

All Gearbox could do was polish a turd, and I'd say they gave it their all. Gearbox does 'outrageous' and 'gratuitous' pretty well. Any other developer, and it would have turned out even worse. They'll do the next Duke Nukem game right.

But now we can look forward to Serious Sam 3!

Hey, at least you can carry a turd around in DNF and throw it!

YUCK!

I wholeheartedly agree. We don't need trash like this filling up store shelves.

I could tell it was awful just from the demo. The desert environment and enemies were atrocious. Horrible textures and models. The gameplay would have been alright in 2001 maybe, **** doesn't flying nowadays. Something tells me the arena "game" is the best part of the whole experience. Sad. Don't blame Gearbox, all they did was release it, 3D Realms and everyone else that worked on Duke wanted to take credit for the game since they did all the work. Do they want to take credit now, since Gearbox will get **** on unfairly for releasing this dreck?

Play Duke 3D, cleanse your soul, and forget DNF ever existed. The biggest joke in gaming history.

I don't even care about childish poo jokes and bad language (it's Duke Nukem, for Christ sake!). I could forgive all of this if the game delivered a solid and fun gameplay. But begin able to carry only 2 weapons, auto regen health, no secrets, long and heavily scripted sequences and boring, railed combat ? That really turned me off. I blame 3D Realms (actually, I just blame George Broussard - YOU FAIL!) for this huge steaming pile of crap. Gearbox just tried to save the IP from oblivion. Let's pretend DN4Ever never happened and await for Gearbox's own vision on the franchising. So far they're doing a great job with the Aliens franchise, I have very high hopes they can do the same with the Duke in the future.

I agree with the other guest. Too much garbage 18+ stuff in it. Would it really be that hard for game developers to censor that stuff out with a simple 'option'. Alas, Game developers would rather not change their work of art, for a heck of a lot more sales.

Well thanks for telling us you're completely unaware of the point behind duke nukem.

Its very different for it to have bad language, sex, drugs and basic crudness, and having TOO MUCH that craps the whole fun out of it.

Duke Nukem is an overblown, tounge-in-cheek satire of the action hero stereotype, if you're one of the ****** harping on about how crude and immature it is, then you're missing the point. The 12 year old boys that like Duke Nukem at face value are also missing the point, but appreciating it on a different level.

That said, this isn't suprising, every Duke Nukem gave after Duke Nukem 3D has been goddawful, and games in general these days are underwhelming. I was obvious from the trailers alone that it was just going to be another generic Unreal Engine FPS. A shame because the game in the 2001 E3 trailer actually looked quite promising for its time.

No way this game was going to live up to the hype of 14 years, and always seemed destined to mediocrity at best. For me personally the gameplay was the biggest issue, I wasn't expecting something revolutionary here, but I didn't expect a step backwards to a more console feel (rails, two weapons, health, etc). However some of the criticism levied against Duke's character is a bit asinine considering the franchise history.

I have not played through the whole game yet, I'm about 4 hours in.
I got it the 10:th since I live in Europe...

So far the 2-Weapon system really degraded this game for me, it sure feels surreal they give the reason "realism" for console-ifying the weapon system of Duk3D, being able to choose at any time what to kill your enemies with is allot of what makes Duke3D fun.

Then the regen health system really ticks me off too, what's that about realism you just said?
Finally we can only carry 5 rockets for the RPG, and it's quite useless too.
But whenever there is a boss battle there is anyway an "infinite ammo crate" nearby, why do I have to get out of battle to find my ammo crate after firing 5 rockets (getting me out of the action, which is precisley the reason given for the auto regen health system to begin with)

Duke3D had none of these issues
And worst of all it is just like Crysis 2 a phonebooth shooter, this old pic describes it way better than I can with words: https://www.techspot.com/gallery/fragfest26-gaming-in-general/p4078-fps-map-design-these-days.html

played dn3d when i was a kid. enjoyed it.

played dnf as an adult, left a bad taste.

could be a mix of high expectations [nostalgia factor, being an atypical shooter compared to today, etc.]

even when i tried to detach those notions, i just couldn't bear to play any more.

i feel it's too old school for its own good, maybe it's a hit with kids of today as dn3d was to me then. maybe not. actually, most likely not considering other fps games.

maybe i'm, sad to say, over and too old for it.

don't get me wrong, i love crude jokes, but it's just plain crude without the jokes part.

the platforming was clunky, i could care less about the game engine, it was neither good or bad, it just was.

the title animation was pretty neat though, i enjoyed that a lot.

i'd say wait for the price to go down, i can't justify the $60 on this.

and yes, i torrented it and i'm glad i did.

now i can spend my money on something else.

p.s. don't give into delusion because you're holding onto and too focused on its legacy, see it for what it is.

How is he "being self-righteous"?

I agree with him;dukenukem is just sexist, arrogant, vulgar and plain stupid. Just like 90%of the sh!t that is churned out of hollywood and thrown on the movies and tv.

So if you don't like things that are insulting or derogatory, that makes you "self-righteous"?

About the game price I am satisfied.
I did not buy it on Steam tho, I live in Sweden and it costs €50 here, which is such a ripoff since €50=$71

But the retail copy goes for SEK 300:-
Which translates to €33 or $46

How the retail copy can be cheaper than the digital version on Steam is beyond me, but I just realized it is the same for Portal 2 which I have not bought yet due to it's price, look at this:
Steam: €50 / $50
Retail: SEK 250:- = €27 $39

Look at it this way:
Theres going to be a generation of retards that thinks Sponge Bob and un-funny Family Guy are the BEST cartoons.
Let time pass by and see what that geration thinks if someone remakes those cartoons or Mcfarlane(just threw up in my mouth) decides to make live action movie.

Not at all.

But when you pick up a game that prides itself on being crude, derogatory, over-sexualized and violent and then feel the need to go online and tell everyone how you hate it because it's crude, derogatory, over-sexualized and violent, then yes, you are being self-righteous.

I don't like Harry Potter, but I don't feel any particular need to go watch a Harry Potter movie then roll around the Harry Potter fansites complaining about how terrible Harry Potter is. Doing so would be childish and self-righteous.

I have to agree on how much this game sucks compared to the older ones.

I still remember picking up the duke nukem 3d disc at a garage sale for a quarter in 1998 and i played that game for months, anything sexual or involving alcohol was rather tame in my opinion and it took effort to find them so it wasn't being slapped in your face from the get go.

Unlike this padded, fluffed up, oversexed, steroided, drunk and turd grabbed out of a toilet bowl game duke nukem 3d is by far the better game.

I would just either borrow the disc from a friend stupid enough to dish out the sixty bucks or(I am sure you know other ways to get the game) don't even bother to play it and just look on amazon for the duke nukem 3d special edition or some crap, i forget the name.

THe weapon choices suck big time, the regenerating health is a major joke(Like they stole it from halo due to lack of imagination or education on what dn is all about), Frame rates suck azz, Areas load poorly, tons of stupid and annoying puzzles.... shall i go on or have i said enough.

this is what i am calling the bast**d child of duke nukem, the one he tried to have buried but someone came along and dug the little guy out and now duke and his ever cool image have to pay the price.
