dvd cd rom not reading disk

i can find my dvd cd rom but when I put any disk in it to play a game or anything it wont find it. Also im not good with computers at all so please talk slow LOL thanks.

What exactly happens when you put a disc in? Does the computer react like it is trying to read the disc? Does this happen with all discs, or just a certain type?

Also make sure you are trying a real CD and not a CD-R (ie a disc you bought not one someone has made with a CD writer). Some CD writers are incompatible with discs made on some other CD writers (unofficially but in experience).
