DVD Drive Working But Not Recognized

After about 6 months of trying to fix it myself I've finally given up and decided to ask you guys. After 1000's of reboots and uninstalling/installing mixed with mucking around with settings around the BIOS etc Ive given up. just cant seem to get this working and i need some help.

The problem is that my computer will not recognize any DVD/CD drives but yet it the computer see's its that a Drive is there. Ive tried the following things so far:

• Changing from Master/Slave/CS
• Uninstalling and Installing Through Device Manager
• Going through the BIOS and trying to get every setting correct
• Deleting and Installing DVD drive Registries

just to name a few.

Any ideas???

Use a friend's computer to create a Gparted-Live Boot CD. (see here)

The boot up from it. At least then you;ll know if it's BIOS/hardware vs. Windows/software
